That's the point of debating - rebuttals and the like. Of course no one is going to win. Has anyone ever won? It's not the National Ferensic League, we have no scoring system... It's because some people enjoy it. If you don't enjoy it, don't debate.

sad.gif My God people, I'm surprised that this farce of a debate has gone on for as long as it has! I mean, anything that I or anyone else says in here just gets twisted and ragged on that it's just pointless to say anything anymore. Good Lord, this whole thing basically got started because Abbey felt like voicing her opinion on something that she should've just kept to herself which really was intollerant in itself. I'm Intollerant, You're Intollerant, We're all Intollerant! Some people started with baseless comments and I and others struck back, which in turn begot more strike backs from the other side, and yes I know that this is the debate club and all and strike backs, or rebuttals if you will are the name of the game, but we are just going to keep going around in circles here with nobody winning this arguement. Therefore I suggest that we just forget this whole fiasco and just close this post and move it to the graveyard where it belongs.

Damnit man, you must be new to the club. That IS what the Nightlife debate club is. It isn't like we have a method of scoring or declaring a winner. We debate just for the hell of it. But it was perfectly fine for Abbey to state her opinion.

Other than that I can pretty much get along with anyone ;)

Yes, I am new to this, read the info under my avatar, it says "New Cop", "Junior Members" and something like only 30-40 posts. Yes, Abbey is free to state her opinion, as are the rest of us. The truth is that this is the 1st and only debate that I've gotten myself into here and I only got into it in the 1st place because I was offended by some of the comments. Right now, I really don't have the time to really get into this, I work 2 jobs, 5 days a week to support my family and most of my free time outside of work involves work around the house and helping my wife with the kids - the only free time that I really have to get on here is usually about 15 minutes or so when I have some downtime at my job because I just have such a causual job that allows me to do things like this when work is slow. But, I am not just letting it go and forgetting about it and moving on. I am monitoring this "debate" as much as I can just to see what others are saying, and I must say that I am getting entertained by all of it.

By default I assume that people have signed up long before I joined, and just spent most of their time lurking.

saying something along the lines of 'everyone's perspective is opinion, but mine is fact' requires little twisting i can assure you... wink.gif

she was sharing her opinion, which i personally invite as opinions are usless unless they're shared, especically if they're half as worth reading as abby's.
WHY should she have kept it to herself? because you dissagree with it?
I'm not utterly convinced you understand the basic fundamentals of a 'debate club'
she didn't put it up attack us, change us, or bait us... it's her opinion, and looking at the reproach it recieved is seems insightful and far from ill that she chose the 'debate club' to say it.

at least she has an opinion... an opinion to simple agree with the majority or majoritive surrounding group is hardly an achievment... at least she challanges her surroundings by thinking independantly.
When people stop questioning authority, authority stops answering to those it apprently 'serves'

this does not belong in the 'graveyard'...

if it goes there people forget we discussed this, and that makes it a waste of time... because forgotten arguments become new arguments, and they're had again and again...

debates should not be fed to landfill.

the important thing is to listen to what each other says...
the only thing that prevents progression in a debate is when one excludes oneself from the term 'opinion' and declares that certain parties should keep their opinions to themselves.

food for thought.

It's all a part of the merchandise. They get 74 virgins. That's... how should put it... 74 single-use women. Hardly enough for a whole eternity in heaven, don't you think? I bet they're pretty bored up there after a week or two.
