What do you call a vegetarian who occasionally eats meat?

If you guessed omnivore, you're not alone.

But you're not right, either. At least not according to the American Dialect Society, which gave the term flexitarian -- used to describe meat- eating vegetarians -- its top honor for most useful word of 2003.

Flexitarians adhere to a mostly vegetarian diet because it's a healthy lifestyle rather than because of ideology. They feel an occasional meal that includes fish, fowl or meat is acceptable.

I would have thought "metrosexual" would win that honor. I feel about the same way about "flexitarians" as I do abotu "metro sexuals"

Bloody rhetoric games. "Flexitarian" is just another example using words to try to bend the truth a bit. As far as rhetoric goes, it's not as serious as calling war "peace keeping". The problem with "flexitarian" is that it is just so damn pointless. You're either a vegetarian or you're not. dry.gif

Perhaps not. I eat meat, but in most cases I prefer the taste of fruit, vegetables, rice, bread, dairy, lollies etc. I've got nothing against killing animals for my food, its just that they don't make much of an effort to taste good.
