Reagan Dead At 93
June 5, 2004

Ronald Reagan, the cheerful crusader who devoted his presidency to winning the Cold War, trying to scale back government and making people believe it was "morning again in America," died Saturday after a long twilight struggle with Alzheimer's disease.

"My family and I would like the world to know that President Ronald Reagan has passed away after 10 years of Alzheimer's disease at 93 years of age. We appreciate everyone's prayers," Nancy Reagan said in a statement.

Nancy Reagan, along with children Ron and Patti Davis, were at the couple's Los Angeles home when Reagan died at 1 p.m. PDT of pneumonia, as a complication of Alzheimer's disease, said Joanne Drake, who represents the family. Son Michael arrived a short time later, she said.

In Paris, President Bush called Reagan's death "a sad day for America."

The U.S. flag over the White House — along with flags elsewhere — was lowered to half-staff. At ballparks and at the Belmont Stakes, there were moments of silence.

Five years after leaving office, the nation's 40th president told the world in November 1994 that he had been diagnosed with the early stages of Alzheimer's, an incurable illness that destroys brain cells. He said he had begun "the journey that will lead me into the sunset of my life."

Meanwhile, in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, Bryan "Heccubus" Hopton felt a strange chill go down his spine about 4:00 pm EST. No kidding, either.

huh.gif He may not have been the best President but he sure was a Fantastic guy! He actually knew how to physically write to people rather than use electronic writing tools. Lol. Listen to me criticising computers while writing in an online forum! laugh.gif Anyway, he was also really good with the foreign heads-of-state. We will miss him, and it is sad that he and his wife had to put up with his disease all of those years. sad.gif

Meanwhile, somewhere else, Creed broke up and the world cheered.

If the nation was practical, we would have had our flags at half-mast when he announced he had Alzheimers in '94, and when he died, we would have thought "Now we can stop feeding him" and moved on.

But if Reagan's death had anything to do with Creed breaking up, then he is truly a great man to be remembered.

I think Malcolm Xs words about Kennedy's death sum up my feelings right now "Chickens coming home to roost" Reagan got what he deserved even though I wouldn't wish Alzheimers on anyone. He made our country poorer, lied to the american people and funded genocide in Latin America. He also helped Saddam cement his power. So I say good riddents and may god have mercy on his soul. Oliver North can go the same way Reagan did.

I wish the two were related.

If Creed came out and said... "With the death of President Reagan we just can't see ourselves going on. A world without Ronald Reagan should not contain music. It is for that reason that we have decided to disband, in memory of the 40th president of the United States."

If they'd done that I would have taken back every negative thing I'd ever said about Creed.

...

Man, that would've been cool.

Reagan got what he deserved...
He...lied to the american people.

That's part and parcel to being a politician. It's what they do best. Well, that, and get a lot of money, and wreak general havoc in the name of good. It's either in the job description, or there's a race of people called politicians who have it in their blood.
I'm comfortably numb.

I come to celebrate the life of this man. Under his leadership, people were truly inspired, there was endless optimism, and an electoral landslide.

The hostages came home, and freedom became possible for the soviets. I became of conservative mind and Jimmy Carter's misery index and malaise dwindled, fell, and gave way to a swelling of American pride.

I'm grateful I have my own memory of his leadership and am not only subject to what I've been told.

A tasteful take on one of my favorite images of the man. Thanks for sharing.
