I dont really think you can truly compare these genres, despite being decades apart classical music has nothing to do with metal, i have found that practically anyone can listen to Beethoven or Wagner, but when it comes to the music close up Metal has much more to offer than Classical, such as lyrics for one, electronics, and even pyrotechnics

I'd disagree. I'd violently disagree, if I was in the right mood. I think there's shedloads a good orchestra can bring to metal. I'd mention Metallica's S&M session, but I'll bet my cojones someone else can come up with a better example.

i thought so...

i thought it was funny how what's his name turned his back on metal when he realized it was bassed on rock which was based on "black" (african) music...

and so now he only listens to classical music because it's the only "true white music"

if people want to be racist that's one thing, but that's just silly.
i don't care how many churches you burn down or bassplayers brains you eat, it's a little hard to take someone seriously when they suddenly turn their back on what made them who they are...

There's nothing wrong with metal, but as it has been stated, it doesn't appeal to everyone. This entire thread has done nothing but prove that some people like Slipknot, and some people don't. This goes without saying for any band on the face of the planet. Don't argue it, just accept that some people don't like every single band that they have ever heard.
Personally, I think Slipknot suck the big one. They rip off bands like Acid Bath like never before, and are one of many pseudo-heavy bands to make a career out of their childhood pain. This of course has to eventually cause one to question whether or not everything that they claim happened to them in their youth is even true, but then that might just be me. People like Aaron Lewis, Jonathan Davis, Coby Dick (or whatever he's calling himself these days), that git from Seether, and so forth just write song after song after song about how horrible their lives are (or were, more often) rather than actually seeking help to deal with their emotional problems. This comes across to me as being an extremely greedy individual. Maybe some day I'll write an album about how my parents divorced, and how people made fun of me in school. Then I can make millions by selling it to disillusioned teenagers the world over.
My point is this:
These bands aren't artists, they're businessmen. They found something to market (emotional problems), and they found their target market (teenagers). They then proceed to milk their cash cow for everything it's worth (read: until the albums stop selling). Metal musicians have a history of singing about stuff like this, but not on every single bloody song. This is something that didn't become a given until the past ten years or so, following 20 years of actual, you know, songwriting.

On a lighter note, I'm sure that if the guys in Slipknot were to find out that someone with an SS avatar was listening to their music, they'd be disgusted with themselves.
