QUOTE (barend @ May 26 2004, 10:14 PM)
it is against the constituion that any elected president of the US be in power for more than 2 terms... well this family seems to have found a way around that.

That's a funny point, but Bush Sr. only served one term, right? So far, no foul.

Good point about the wars on terror adn drugs guys, next we'll be waging war on sadness or maybe anger. I can see that now "Today president Bush declared global war against indifferent. Indifferent leaders remarked 'Meh'" The US's drug stance is neanderthal compared to Europe and Canada. And the war on terror is clearly nothing but a war on islam.

Franklin Roosevelt served for three terms, of course it was constitutional back then. Washington set the standard of two terms....

People just liked Clinton because he was slick. The guy did just as much to fuck your country up, he just looked more relaxed doing it.

He also didn't start any insane wars and he kept the economy out of shambles. And besides, he could speak in full sentences and didn't require a vice president and sec of defense to tell him what to do. Plus he could play the sax.

I do have to hand it to that "What and Where" person for shooting this thread off the ground. I mean, they weren't the brightest of people, and they didn't really attempt to defend their views, but they certainly boosted this thread through the first two pages rather quickly. tongue.gif

Going back to the "leader deserves our respect issue", Locke and Hobbes, babe. The people give the leader their power in the first place by allowing them to be the leader. That power should be given back to the people should the leader prove unfit to govern or reneges on the people's trust. The main trick is convincing the people that the government has fucked up. People are too lazy/blind to do anything about it. Not that Bush would listen if he was told to leave. Just thought I'd throw that out.

Hecc: If you're going to do anything, you should be slick while doing it. wink.gif Not that I condone him or anything, but you must admire the technique with which he did things.

I swear Clinton bombed the hell out of some people quietly at one point. I'm too lazy to look it up right now but I think it's a requirment of presidency since the invention of the bomb that you have to use it on somebody.

The action in Bosnia was UN mandated. Yes people died but Milosevic was not cool and the Chinese Embassy bombing was the fault of improper mapping by the CIA, not Clinton. Clinton's worst transcendences in my book are his maintenance of the blockade on Cuba and Iraq. He really tried to do something for Palestine though and at least he didn't express outward hostility to Cuba or invade Iraq.

Carter's reputation however is beyond reproach. I still admire him for his trip to Cuba and his meeting with president Castro not to mention his tireless work for human rights.
