Gore Warns of 'Climate Emergency' While Promoting Disaster Film
Wednesday, May 12, 2004

(CNSNews.com) - Former Vice President Al Gore warned of a "climate emergency" on Tuesday as he joined forces with political activists from MoveOn.org to promote a Hollywood disaster film that shows global warming creating an ice age and causing massive destruction.

The Day After Tomorrow , a 20th Century Fox production set for release on Memorial Day, stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Dennis Quaid. The $125-million movie will offer "a rare opportunity to have a national conversation about what truly should be seen as a global climate emergency," Gore told reporters.

"I hope this movie will provide many opportunities for in-depth conversations about what this issue is really all about," Gore added. Others participating in Tuesday's teleconference are also planning to use the timing of the film's release to attack the Bush administration's environmental policies.

Since when are former vice presidents able to take endorsements? What next, a billboard with Ralph Nader drinking Coke?

For the man who won over half of the country's votes we sure forgot he ever existed.

Not without merit really. Democrats recently don't seem to have much going for them besides not being republicans. It makes me want to live in a hole.

I think that says something about the voting public...

Next elections, Bush will adress the country, moon the cameras, and say "this is for all the people who don't like chocolate milk" and everyone will go " yayy!!!" and for get about the last 4 years and vote for him.

In Australia, our two major parties are so damn similar that if you looked at one of the parties' list of policies, you would probably not be able to tell which party made the list.

Is it the same in America?

I was kind of hoping that Kerry might oust Bush and there would be some actual change in the way your government acted.

Or is this wishful thinking?

Bush's government has not paid for the war that it ran, and the profits from it will go to Bush's friends. If Bush loses the election to Kerry, Kerry will be doing him a favour. When the economy absolutely tanks, everyone will blame the party in power.

PS: Gore was not the first President to lose an election to dirty tricks. Nixon lost to Kennedy when dead people in Chicago came out to vote. Discrepencies also appeared in Florida and New York, all mob hot states. Nixon chose not to investigate/expose, fearing that the scandal would hurt the country.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

That is a very good point you've just made, Civilian. It's not one that many of us would have thought of. Even so, it is still best if Kerry replaces Bush. As long as Bush is at the helm of the government, things are going to get worse.

Still this whole, "I'm not voting for Kerry so much as voting against Bush" bit makes me more than a little uneasy. Handing the country over to some guy simply because he isn't Bush seems a little Frech Revolution-ish. And we all know how that turned out. (I am fully aware that we do not "all" know how that turned out and will admit I didn't either 'till a couple months ago, but it was bad. Oh baby it was bad.)

I think that anyone who runs for the presidency and loses should still have to serve their country for the next four years in some public service capacity. If you actually have the hubris to believe that you deserve to be the president, but you lose on election day, you should still have to, in some way or another, work for your country. Are you listening to me Perot?
