There's a lot of crowd mentality when it comes to mainstream bands and there followings. Lots of people listen to certain bands because it seems like the 'in' thing to do.

I wish people wouldn't worry so much about what bands their friends like. They should seek out the music that they like.

Granted, a hip-hop lover and classic folk-song lover can't share a house together - but they can still be friends.

a few points in response to it all...

some australian bands I like...
Sterile, the Birthday Party, early Bad Seeds, the Saints, AC/DC,.

corse, HYPOID is the best.

Canada... has some great bands. Skinny Puppy at the top of the list (this also includes the related projects; Download, the TEar Garden, Ohgr, and i guess Front Line Assembly).
but let's not forget Voivod!

but let's forget Zit Remedy.

Kylie Minogue has an amazing ass! the only reeason that I hear cool people in other countries talk about her with anny respect has got to be because she forged credibility by doing a song with Nick Cave!

The Saints? Then would you by any chance have heard of the former Saints member Ed Kuepper?

I think he's one of the best artists in the world and almost nobody I know has ever heard of him. I'm hoping that perhaps this is just the ignorance of Queenslanders and that folk in New South Wales may know him.

I was driving home from camp a couple of months ago, to this "eighties show" they had on the radio. pretty predictable with limited rotation, for sure. they had a "soundtrack block" with: Highway to the Dangerzone (no surprise there,) I'm Alright, and Flashdance. I was about twelve minutes from home when the "Down Under block" came on. First up: Midnight Oil, Beds are burning. then (of course) Men at work. Overkill? (I always liked that one. I guess who can it be now had a scratch on it.) Anyway, the best part was right as I was almost home (yes, yes...) they led into "don't dream it's over" by my favorite band, Crowded House and it was great. perfect timing.

btw, Neil and Tim will be touring the states soon. Hope to catch them again. smile.gif

Crowded House is your favourite band? Ah, you have very fine taste in music.

Unfortunately, I don't know if Australia can lay claim to this band though. Two of the members were Australian for the first three albums (not sure about the line-up on the last one) but the talent (Neil) is a New Zealander.

I wish Australia could claim them but I'm not sure if we can.

but i forgot to mention Radio Birdman...

Sure they can! Paul and I shared a house for an entire summer!

What about Silverchair? rolleyes.gif

the Super Jesus are really boring too...

what happened to all our cool Sydney bands:
Smuge (with the cute girly bass player who used to work at waterfront and supervised many of my instore listenings of CDs)
the Meanies (just disappeared)

Spiderbait are still playing around, and Magic Dirt have lost there magic.

Spiderbait is really great you guys look them up and check them out... also Regurgitator, and Happyland (i think is the name - the dude from regurgitator and the girl from Spiderbait - I beleive they met at the gig I saw them at in 1995 opening for chicagos' MINISTRY. (now texas' MINISTRY)

fuck, i can't talk about music for too long wiothout bringing those boys up!

I found a couple of Spiderbait things that I was able to download. One had a male vocalist, and the other a female....I am confused.
