So anyway to cheer up a friend who just came out of a relationship I thought it might be nice to do a star wars, empire strikes back, return of the jedi marathon with the aid of some Hoegaarden beer while we waited for the election results to come in.

We of course watched the unedited, no digital-toupe', original versions.

I hadn't watched them for some time and it was utterly fantastic (aside from a few moments of silliness in ROTJ). But overall an awsome experience. MY friend found himself havening to pause every now and then to say: "wait! what?" because quite frankly, I now see that Chefelf would have had a much harder time composing a list of consistancies between the prequels and originals.

Nothing matches. The prequels are indigestable in thier intended context and should be veiwed as unrelated fan flicks that just lazily borrowed alot of character names. Honestly, right from the world go. Between Owen's cautionary remarks, Obiwan's fond memories, and no one remembering R2D2 or C3P0. In "Ep3" Obiwan and Anakin are having an argument about R2D2, Annie defending and Obiwan complaining. The next time he's seen by both, Obiwan has no memory of this droid he relied so heavily upon and Anakin shoots him in the head. but it just gets more and more removed from there.

I could go on, but I should be working... I'll be back on this.

But in the meantime... You should be ashamed of yourself if you can accept the prequels as part of the story.

If only for the difference in the use of "I've got a bad feeling about this"

I did a marathon not to far back and shared a similar experience. Unfortunatley, I have the crapified special addition, but I was able to remove each memory of the new and improved scenes by first, pressing pause, then slamming my head of the coffee table until I forgot what was going on, then, upon seeing a paused Star Wars DVD, picked up right where I left off.

The OT is so much better its not even fair! Even now, I still get the warm fuzzies watching my old pals rally together, despite all diversity, united as one by a common bond - their hatred of the evil rebel alliance. Gods I hated those douche bags. I still get teary-eyed when the Death Star explodes for the first time. The second time only hurts that much more.

I dont count the PT as Star Wars any more than I do the Holiday Special. At least the latter wasnt clogged up with a bunch of CG drivel. And it made me laugh. The PT just makes me want to put my fist through the tele.

you really should pick up the limmited edditions that come with the "bonus disk" of non-edited originals.

I felt so good watching them. They really are a great set of films that have stood the test of time.
