Hey, I need someone who's really good with English to edit my book. I'm talking story editing, adding descriptions, clarifying language and things of that sort. Spelling and grammar should all be fine already, so I just need a story editor. Anyone who can will be making at least 50 bucks off it. I'll give more details if they're needed and theres no strict time frame to this.

I'd help, but you don't want me, or you'd have asked. tongue.gif

Nah, seriously, I suck at getting stuff done without a deadline, and have my own projects I'm putting off, and in general, editing an entire book somebody wrote is a big project I dunno if I have the time and stamina for, cash money or no.

So you're basically asking for someone to make your book more like your signature?

instead of offering a mere 50 bucks (or more), you should offer royalty incentives. someone doing an overall editing job to a book you could make serious money off of, should be entitled to an expressed percentage of overall sales of the book...not to mention, possibly having their name formally recognized in the book as being an editor.

Yeah, an editor should demand royalties on a book that is published by a tiny publisher on a local/online level. I'm sure you'll get a ton of money that way. *rolls eyes*

JM isn't in the proper circles to make any fat royalty checks right now. No offense to you, good Sir Hoffman, of course.

I"m still waiting for my royalty cheques from 'Dinner of Leeks' to role in.

In the meantime I could edit the new book using engrish.

There should be a sample on my website under writing, I think. Let me punch it up.

Whoever can email me the best pages of that will get the contract.

Why is my name up there on that already? I don't think I did much of anything if anything at all to that sucker before we both got sidetracked, good sir.

Edit: I'm tempted to hack into this because I feel like it's a challenge/contest now, but I'm not sure what you're looking for, JM. I'm not going to write you a new book based on your ideas, nor am I going to try to fix everything I don't like. It's your creative license and work that makes your book good or not good, not your editor trying to make everybody think you're something you're not. The best I could ethically do is possibly offer you suggestions on how to improve sections.

It definitely still has several grammar, syntax, and punctuation errors. The writing could be improved a bit here and there, too. But if that's just one chapter, I don't know if $50 is really worth it. That's gonna be a heck of a lot of work for only $50 and no royalties (yes yes, I know, you're not expecting a lot of money from this - but what if you DO make money? Maybe make a contract that's like, if the book sells x amount, then the editor does start getting a royalty) and not even their name in the book as editor.

Story started out nice, though. Very Anne Rice; there's definitely a good-sized group of people to whom this book will appeal.

Slade- As I recall you did edit the vast majority of the thing.

Spoon- It's 50 dollars guaranteed, 25 if you can get it by when we decide it should be done, and 25 if it gets published. And provided I see royalties over 100 dollars I'll cut you in on it.

I'm definately glad you noticed the errors though. I'm happy to have sentences rewritten for clarity and will pretty much give you free reign. There are only like 8 chapters in the book, they're just quite long.

Also, the email to send to is tokemonmonmon@hotmail.com it might help if I put that.

Ah. Only 8 chapters helps. If/when I get some time I might take a crack at it but only if no one else seems interested; because I honestly don't want to waste my time (it would be a lot of time) doing that whole uber-long chapter if someone else is just going to get the job instead.

Edit: That if/when would be this weekend, hopefully (assuming I don't have a billion art projects kicking my ass); I'm not saying like, oh hey, 12 months from now I have some time so I'll get to editing that sucker...

Spoon- You've got the job. Bidding is closed. Have you got a messenger system of some manner? Just PM me on the boards and we'll work out a deadline and payment and I'll give you some details and send you some of the criticism I've recieved on the book. We can also work out a royalties share if you're really into that.

Goddammit, Jm, I'm really sorry man but I came up with a HUGE flaw in my plan that renders me unable to help you out with this. I'm really, really, sorry and I feel like a huge heel for making you think I could do it. Honestly it was a very stupid mistake on my part to think I could do it in the first place. I'm a moron.

I'm sorry.

I'll buy the book though, assuming it doesn't cost more than a normal book would... I'm actually pretty interested in hearing the rest of the story.
