but it is a freedom of speech issue (not for content, but for length). It shouldn't be. But the cops made it one by picking the wrong time to be assholes.

I suppose some kid asks a short question but has a stutter. What, we shoot him?

I do appreciate where your comming from, spoony. I had this same argument about GTA:Vice City. Everone was saying the game promotes 'sexual violence' becuase you can kill a prostitute and reclaim you money after sleeping with her. Where as I called bullshit on that. It's not sexualy violence it's just muder and theft. the Sex is incidental.

however, the cops made it an issue by just picking a poor moment. guy wanted to talk, they stopped him and he was asssaulted. therefore FOS issue. it's just a technicality

[quote]Jordan: Do you really think people should be tased for being obnoxious, or are you just saying that to be cute? And if you recall, Kerry did answer his questions, so I'm not sure what you're trying to say.[quote]

Yes, that is why you tase them. Obnoxious people are prime canditates for it. Take your choice, mase, batton, plastic bullets, or stinging foam. Tasing is the most lax. Ya I'm being cute, whatever the fuck that means. Kerry didn't answer his questions, he wouldn't let him, he kept blabbering and cutting him off, then the mic gets cut, if he just shut up and let kerry talk instead of yelling like an idiot then it may have ended differently. The guy got what he wanted, he feels important or something.

Because she's elderly, man. sad.gif

Although, I wouldn't mind seeing Roseanne get tasered... biggrin.gif

It's funny how the only real thing that seems to have come out of this is the 'Don't tase me, bro!'. Which while I don't think it advanced the kid's agenda much (prank or not), it's a great sound bite.

I did find it funny how all sorts of people were being reported as being Tasered around the time of the story. It's not an uncommon thing. People who resist arrest get Tasered for being 'tarded. I'm reminded of the episode of cops where an officer had to Taser an unruly gentlemen, the gentleman's unruly brother, and the brother's hysterically violent girlfriend. Moral of the story: Don't threaten a man with a Taser.

the moral of the story is don't be the man who isn't holding the taser.

It's just like a clockwork orange.

I've heard of a fellow who died of a heart attack after being tasered; scary stuff. unsure.gif

all I hope is that the kid climbs that damn clocktower and guns down everyone who laughed at him. If he doesn't, he'll regret it for the rest of his (probably short) life.

Alright. Everyone says this isn't a freedom of speech issue.

You're all jackasses.

You know why it's a freedom of speech issue?

Because if his question had been "Senator Kerry, why are you just such a golly gosh darn swell guy?"

And he'd run over the time limit with it, do any of you honestly think the cops would have tasered him or tried to arrest him? Fuck no. He was arrested for his views, which were honestly pretty interesting. I myself would have liked to hear Kerry's answer, but now we'll never know.

If shit like this had happened in my presence I can honestly say I'd have given those pigs a run for their money. But most Americans, even college students who are supposed to be open minded, seem as though they'd rather submit to a police state than hear the answers to uncomfortable questions.

Ergo they have nothing to contribute to the political betterment of society, and I'm with Barend 100%. If someone decided the scum who laughed at him needed to die, Bush would mourn the loss of a few automoton future soldiers for his war on Iran. Have to say, I wouldnt be joining him though.

I've recently found some more info on this. The students who put on this forum (it was student run, I find that pretty cool) had a no-vulgarity rule. The kid said "blowjob" and so they cut the mic. Oh, and since it was a private function, they can censor whatever the fuck they want. The Freedom of Speech amendment doesn't protect things like this anyway - a private organization (for instance, a company or school) can censor anything they want, and have rules about what shouldn't be said, and can, for instance, fire someone who doesn't comply. This privately run function did not like what this dude was doing and so they had him escorted off. And I still stand by my previous statement that he was NOT tasered and arrested for what he said. If that were the case, he would have been tasered and arrested right off the bat. Instead, they waited around a really long time, just trying to protect themselves from being kicked and punched by the kid (who also appeared to lunge for Kerry at one point, at which the police doubled their efforts on him). They didn't cuff him for a long time, nor tase him - and I promise it's not because he was making it difficult for them. You can tell just by watching the video that he is certainly not a fighter. Those cops could have had him down on his stomach in a second if they really wanted - especially if they were intending on tasering him for what he was saying in the first place.

It's a police brutality issue even if he was censored from saying more vulgarities.

I'm still waiting to hear whether you think the same thing would have happened had he been some young republican douche bag and complemented Kerry. And in case you didn't know, just about every forum is put on by a private entity now. You think the government is going to organize these debates? They cost a lot of money to produce and the government has no way to make that back. Only the media and private organizations can do that by distributing rights to it on tv or through tickets.

So you're basically saying that free speech does not exist in political forums and that this is just fine with you.

And no, he wasnt tasered for what he said, but it lead to it. When he started mouthing off the cops moved in and it escalated from there. Had he asked more proper, scripted questions the situation wouldnt have opened up that led to this.

Yes, I think the same thing would have happened if he had somehow been able to make the combo of asking a respectful question, saying "blowjob," completely freaking out when the mic got cut off due to his rule-breaking vulgarity, and then lunging at both Kerry and the security trying to gently escort him away from the mic.

He was robbed of his tern. I"d freak out too after waiting for several young rebublicans to ask scripted questions.

'Blowjob' is a euphamsim not a vulgarity. 'Cum-swallowing cock-sucking' would have been a vulgarity.
