Ok, before now, there really has been no true proof that Lucas didn't want Han to shoot first, other than the fact that it's utterly ridiculous. Even in the book it isn't clear about the scene, letting him off the hook. But I found the final script for the original Star Wars here http://home.online.n...s_4th-Draft.txt and if you scroll down to the scene you will see this.

GREEDO: You can tell that to Jabba. He may only take your ship.

HAN: Over my dead body.

GREEDO: That's the idea. I've been looking forward to killing you for
a long time.

HAN: Yes, I'll bet you have.

Suddenly the slimy alien disappears in a blinding flash of
light. Han pulls his smoking gun from beneath the table as the
other patron look on in bemused amazement. Han gets up and
starts out of the cantina, flipping the bartender some coins
as he leaves.

No "suddenly, a bolt of light comes from Greedo's blaster, but he then disappears in a blinding flash of light after Han shoots". No, there is ONE flash, and Greedo dies. Wonder what Lucas has to say about that, and I also wonder why no one else has brought that up?

But that was Lucas in the old days. Something seems to have happened since then... I think it may have to do with the discovery of how much revenue little children bring in, as opposed to all those other viewers over the age of twelve.

I actually, surprisingly, am going to disagree with you there. I sincerely do not think Lucas is making the movies just because of the money. He wants to make good movies. He'll still include dark things in his movies (the Anakin-Sandpeople sand, for example, and he has said III will be extremely dark) which do not appeal to kids. The fact that they aren't well-made doesn't mean he's only in it for the money. He lost something between 83 and 99 (I know you'll say after 80 but we argued that point), and it had nothing to do with money. He's just not the filmmaker he was. I would say it has more to do with the fact that he didn't direct a movie since the original Star Wars in 1977, and that from 83-95, he was largely absent from the movies, save for Howard the Duck of course, though he only produced it, and Willow, which he only wrote the story for I believe. I have another post on this somewhere, but suffice it to say it had more to do with him being away from movies than him wanting money. He's a filmmaker. I don't care how rich a filmmaker gets, or how shrewd a businessman he is, he still wants to make a quality movie. Lucas just doesn't seem to have it in him anymore.

Hmm, Lucas wants to make quality movies? Perhaps, but I don't know... Have you guys seen the behind the scenes footage from the prequels? It seems to me that Lucas is very casual about the whole deal. I mean, just check him out as he approves design for the film, it looks as if he does so on the spur of a moment, no afterthought at all. To me he seems slightly indifferent and not very focused. I may be wrong of course, what do you think?
Oh, and the title of the last film will be "Episode III : I've got your money you f**king nerds" biggrin.gif

i don't know if we really need proof,

Greedo copped it sweet, cause Han was a sneeky smugler type.

then George adopted children, and got an over developed sense of "social responsibility"

but like a porn star you can't erase your past, but GL seems to be doing a good job of it.
and i say GOOD!!!
i'd rather not remember him for anything good annyway!!!

I think a lot of it comes from him apparently having to vet absolutely everything that goes into the film. It's just way to much. There should be other people making some of these calls. He has no focus because it is spread across so much there isn't the space to fit it all in.
