PRE-ARTICLE DISCLAIMER: Yes this is from a blog. The original news story was broadcast on a radio station in the Philippines. Now until I get an mp3 of the original broadcast and wait for njamilla to sign in again and get him to translate... This shall have to do. If any pansy ass trouble maker has a problem with this, you know where the 'report' button is, and I'll just have to take my chances with trying to distract Carlos 9 with a pixilated ball of string to save my life... anyway...

Teenage girl kills herself over fake spoilers of Harry Potter and the Deathly hallows
Jul 20th, 2007 by Martin Aquino

Apparently a girl in the PHILIPPINES has just killed herself over fake spoilers of harry potter and the deathly hallows!

I’ll put down all I can remember from the radio news report.

The news report said that the girl and her mother had downloaded from a website what they believed to be the legitimate copy of “Harry potter and the deathly hallows”

It was actually a fake book (My own personal opinion is that it was most likely a sick sort of fanfiction) in which Harry potter and his friends meet a gruesome end.

The girl’s mother said that her daughter was very “crushed” by the news and locked herself in her room. When the girl’s mother came up to call her for dinner she found that her daughter had hanged herself in her closet using rolled up bedsheets and a nightgown.

The news reporter interviewing the mother then said that the girls room was filled with all sorts of Harry Potter toys, models, posters, dolls and the six books.

Well... I somehow see this making its way into ant-piracy adds in the future.

I think you have to be a serious nutjob to kill yourself over something like this. I mean people give you greif for complaining about prequels, but this is nuts. What's really tragic is that such a die-(no pun intended)-hard fan never actually got to finish the series.

Obviously the death of a young girl in general is what's really tragic here... I'm just making a point that I think she, of all people, would agree with.

I'm curious to how the author of the fanfake will react to this news.

Good heavens, that's horrible... sad.gif

I might be a little disappointed about unhappy endings to my favorite series, but never would I go the length to kill myself... ohmy.gif

Certainly this is very sad, but yes, barend, you must be a total wacko to begin with to bloody well off yourself.

But when you think about the whole mother/daughter thing and how close they were and... crying.gif

There are many words I can use to describe the death of that girl. But as a sign of respect I will only use one: UN-FOOKIN-BELIV-ABLE.

It's not only that, Cobnat, it's downright sickening. Who would honestly throw their life away... for a book? crying.gif

Well at the risk of appearing cruel, the girl must've been a sap... or at least had some serious obsessive mental disorder to begin with... it's stupidly ridiculous.

This sort of thing has happened before many-many times: heavy metal bands made heavy metal records, stupid people listened to the stuff and blew their own heads off with shotguns. Who's to blame in such cases?
Without trying to sound like an insensitive prick... I really don't think the world lost a cure for cancer.

Its like when someone has been doing to same job for decades and then their boss fires them for being too old (but give a different reason of course) then there is a chance that that person kills themselves because they have identified themselves with what they were doing. Like the girl identified herself as a member of the Harry Potter gang or people who take band lyrics too seriously see the band leaders as enlightened leaders or some such.

This is really about attachment; if a person gets to attached to something and then that something turns out bad or broken then that person will feel really bad.

I think Becker said it best: No expectations; No disappointments.

I thought the quote was, "no appointment, no disappointment" and that it was attributed to the Swami Satchidananda.

whatever the case may be, this story is really unfortunate in at least five different ways and I really hope that it turns out to be untrue.
Head Gunner for the Royal Sloop Crimson Steel, Queen of the Dead, Instigator of Chaos and Confusion, Knight of the Grand Recursive Order of the Lambda Calculus, and also The Non.

Remember Emu's face, people; one day it's going to be on the news alongside a headline about blowing some landmark to smithereens, and then we can all sigh and say, "She was such a normal person".....
....We'd be lying though.

Ultimatley, I think the whole HEavy Metal killed my son thing was more bullshit than anything else ever. If I were going to kill my self, I'd want to my favorite album to be the last thing I heard before punching my own ticket.

Of course... I haven't seen a character I could relate to who said everything I ever said in such a way with such conviction since Duckman.

(Also Finnally catching Bill Hicks stuff... Jesus, the friend that brought his stuff to my attention did so because everything he ever said in his live stuff was something I said in a drunken rant. IT's too bad I'll never meet him sad.gif )
