Classic examples of cowboy work?

Blocking up vents in walls.
Chipboard white plastic coated wood. Or is it just a modern habit?
No large screws for bottom support but dal wood instead.
No top support in the framework.
No nailed or screwed floorboards underneath.
Some edges glued flat to the walls with no screws
Screws that are so weak in state the screw-in piece gets damaged with a few turns and some are even rusty. What good is a screw then?

I pulled the entire unit out today. The wood work behind the side of the blocked vent was mouldy and disgusting. The only good things are the pine doors. I am no builder but I do understand the stupid concepts of blocking up vents and causing dampness. As for the little ceiling support there was the danger of the frames collapsing on me. Also if every screw came out it wouldn't have been so time consuming.

Has anybody pulled out units like this before?

It would not appear so.

The cowboy workers who lived in the house before did all kinds of things like this. They blocked up and plastered all the vents (this was the last one), they painted pink over the white wallpaper and ceilings. The house needed a lot of work to undo the damages they caused. The original features such as the woolen 1950's? woolen carpet and the quality 1960's style wardrobe remained when I moved in for a while.

(Semi-related anecdote)
I was bashing Home Depot with some co-workers, and we came up with a new slogan for the loverly store. . . Home Depot: You can do it... We'll let ya.

Heh heh ... get it ... because they are, like... nevermind.

I know someone who walled over his front door. ermm.gif
"The problem is, you're not a kangaroo... that's a bear... and he's in your pants."
"Maybe artists shouldn't talk about their art."
"Well kids, I guess your father isn't a hermaphrodite."
"Izzy! enough with the rabid smootching!!"

Well here is a talent of cowboy work:

The wood there is glued flat against the wall and a blocked went.

I wish, but it is a built in unit. A screw is good for undoing but sadly most of them were no't.
