QUOTE
Bush pokes fun at himself at dinner
Thursday, March 25, 2004

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush poked fun at his staff, his Democratic challenger and himself Wednesday night at a black-tie dinner where he hobnobbed with the news media.

Bush put on a slide show, calling it the "White House Election-Year Album" at the Radio and Television Correspondents' Association 60th annual dinner, showing himself and his staff in some decidedly unflattering poses.

There was Bush looking under furniture in a fruitless, frustrating search. "Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be somewhere," he said.

Well, it's about time ol' Dubya got on the bandwagon and joined the rest of the world in making fun of him.

Sounds like something he would do if he were drunk.

Is this really a joke to him?

I know I mean I want people making fun of the president, but I don't want him joking around saying "where are those weapons of mass destruction" when it was his decision that has cost the lives of 500 men and women (not to mention we could kinda blame him for not going after the terrorists instead of Iraq so the toll becomes higher, especially with Spain). These are laughing matters to people who don't make the decisions, not the president. That really annoys me that he did that. Just another reason not to like him.

I'm listening to NPR this morning at work, and they are talking about this very topic. Apparently (I'll see if I can confirm this, but I just heard it), his jokes about "Where are the weapons of mass destruction?" came right on the tails of a recent widow reading some of her husband's last emails from Iraq.

How's that for sensitive?

Leave it to Bush. Are he and Charlton Heston gonna have a "Right to Bear Bombs" rally in Madrid next week too?

You can see the presentation on cspan.org, under recent video. Lacking sensitivity? Why not watch it and decide for yourself?
