Yes, I suppose we all agree that Jabba was lame. I had always imagined that Jabba existed somewhere else, and that Greedo had caught up with Han in the middle of nowhere, not on Jabba's home planet. Jabba turning out to have a mansion on Tatooine was the begining of the big suck. Let's face it, kids; ROTJ is where the galaxy started to becoming visibly smaller. The prequels were just more of the same.
"I had a lot of different ideas. At one point, Luke, Leia and Ben were all going to be little people, and we did screen tests to see if we could do that." -George Lucas, in STAR WARS: the Annotated Screenplays (p197).

In a weird way, the scene Lucas shot for ANH with the "human Jabba" could have worked...say nobody knew who or what Jabba actually was, and he was a behind the scenes type of guy. Despite the SW universe being filled with interesting looking aliens, a huge slobbering slug being an intergalactic criminal genius would be a cool twist. If Jabba used the fat British guy as a "front"...everyone thought HE was Jabba. Of course, this only works if we see a clever Jabba and not the horny goon we got...and if "The Hutt" is just a weird nickname and not the name of his friggin' species! Why not Lando the Human? Darth the Walking Black Rubber Dildo? Leia the Coke-Snortin' Machine Supreme?

And excellent point on how lame it is Jabba lives on Tattooine. If he's after Han, why the hell does Solo show up and hang out in his backyard like it ain't no thang? And why does he only send Greedo to smoke him? Jabba, Jabba, Jabba...you coasted on your looks for years and you paid the price in the end.

i liked the idea of the human jabba when i first saw that deleted scene in 1980 or something...

i figured, at the time, that "hutt" was like a sindicate rank like "Godfather"...

much like fans of the PT however, as an 8/9 year old jabbas brilliant appreance in ROTJ distracted me from the flaws... but a few years later is started to claw away at me...

well, much of all that has just been said.

why was Han hanging out so casually at mos eisley? but the faact that he blasted greedo under the table, just became that little bit cooler in a way... he was there because he could handle himself.

but it was still a stupid thing to do.

jabba in the car park bothered me though, and when i saw its nasty revamping and inclusion in the 97 edition made me cringe. I mean what, greedo had been sent into the cantina from the car park?

...the car park? that's where greedo was taking han...shouldn't he have said, oh jabba wants to see you he's out back... just a friendly chat, then on your bike? and what the fuck is Bobba Fett doing there...

I'm going to send lucas a dictionary with 'bounty hunter' flagged and underlined.

Han blasting Greedo also added sense of suspence in that you didn't know as a first time viewer if the guy Luke and Obi Wan were getting a ride to Aldeeran was a good guy or someone who would turn on them during the flight. The whole addition of Greedo shooting first is stupid as noted many times before, especially since he had his gun drawn and aimed at Han, in many places here on earth that's reason enough to justify shooting first in defense, as there's little wiggle room to get out of that situation. Accursed Lucas!
