Actually, I think driving a farm truck and driving an aircraft is quite different, don't you agree?

And have you seen all those buttons and levers in the X-wing? Try piloting that without knowing how it works.

Have you seen all the buttons and levers in an F-16? More than what I saw from my brief experience with the cockpit of an x-wing. Thing is, most of that shit is just circuit breakers. The flying part is actually pretty straight forward. Plus there’s this fantastic invention called autopilot.

You know, I once had a nice chat with a couple pilots from Andrews who fly Air Force 1 & 2. They said that when the weather is really bad, they don’t even fly the plane, they put it on autopilot. They even let the autopilot land and take off.

I wonder if they had autopilot a long time a go in any galaxies far far away?

If you use the auto-pilot stuff as a defense of Luke destroying the Death Star, then Anakin destroying the droid ship also makes perfect sense because he uses an auto-pilot.
Sorry, you won't be seeing a smartass sig here. Try with the next poster.

I doubt autopilot would make you crash inside of a giant space station. But, in truth, I never really thought Ani accidentally crashing inside, accidentally blowing it up and accidentally taking back off and accidentally making his way back into the Nubian hanger bay was that terribly far fetched, if for no other reason than the existence of autopilot, which was clearly the reason why it happened.

The part that I find ridiculous, is that Quigon let the feisty little "pilot" sit in the cockpit to "get out of danger" in the first place. That was the best GL could come up with to put Anakin in a space battle and I just wasn't buying it.

OWEN: I have no need for a protocol droid.

THREEPIO: (quickly) Sir -- not in an environment such as this --
that's why I've also been programmed for over thirty secondary
functions that...

OWEN: What I really need is a droid that understands the binary
language of moisture vaporators.

THREEPIO: Vaporators! Sir -- My first job was programming binary load
lifters...very similar to your vaporators. Of course, i have no memory of that, i only remember serving tea and biscuits on the Tantive IV. I had to read THAT one off my resume... Hey it says here I've worked with Vaporators too... hmmm... and on tatooine?

OWEN: Do you speak Bocce?

THREEPIO: Probably...

He turned off the autopilot when he went into space.
That's why he crashed into the droid ship and then "accidentaly" destroyed the whole fucking thing.smile.gif

Hey peeps, just playing devil's advocate for a minute here, but one could argue that C-3PO's "memory" of having worked on binary load lifters was a plant after his mind was wiped. Or even that that was his "first" job after having had his mind wiped. I don't buy it and I think it's a very flimsy argument, but I'm just putting it out there and refuting it a the same time to save time. biggrin.gif

On another note, Lucas cannot write. Hell, he doesn't like to direct for that matter. It pains me to think of what the prequels could've been had he just backed off and let someone else handle the writing and directing duties. But, I suppose when you have an ego as big or bigger than your double-chins, it's hard to keep away.

Later everybody.

*sits, huddled in a corner, fingers crossed, still hoping that the OT on DVD is for real and not the Special Edition copies that were released before the Uber Editions*

Battle of Endor:

Han: R2, fly over the battlefield and use your fuel to flame the stromtroopers!
R2: beep beep boop.
3-PO: He doesn't want to do that.
Han: Damn you, stupid trashcan!

The sad thing is that Luke actually did whine more than Anakin.

"No, that's not true, that's IMPOSSIBLE!"

"Nooooooooooooooooo! Noooooooooo!"

"I don't even know what we're doing here, we're wasting our time!"

"But I want to go to the Tashi station to pick up some power converters!"

"You ask the impossible!" (sits down and pouts)

Luke was definitely a whiney bitch. I actually hated his guts til ROTJ, cause he finally grew some balls.

Anakin was a goddamn Padawan - him whining was just stupid. And creepy.

So, I guess going against the second most powerful dark jedi (i refuse to use sith) in the galaxy, with barely any training, not knowing where your best friends are, millions of miles away from home, means that your a wimp.

And, flying a star fighter that you've never flown before, to help destroy some Empire that doesnt even affect your homeworld for some old dude and a hodgepodge group of bumbling rebels, makes you a pussy....
