Should prostitution be made legal? It's their bodies, after all.

Yeah, as for me I am dead sexy and have never had the need.

I think prostitution is already plenty legal, because now escort agencies add the phrase "girlfriend experience" to their ads, to let you know that you'd be getting something more than just company. Hopefully it's the the real girlfriend experience of backseat driving, complaining that you don't cook enough, and randomly reminding you of arguments you had months ago. tongue.gif

But seriously, I think street prostitution ought to stay illegal, if only because the business is run entirely by pimps, and the women make no money. I think the government should spend our tax dollars properly by creating a fake gang whose game is to murder pimps and to hide the bodies. Overspending and administrative corruption in that segment of civil service I could live with.

Legitimate sex for money services I have no problem with. The current loophole is that you can pay a "referral" agency to introduce you to a gal, and what she does with you is her own business. It's a silly fiction since everyone knows what's going on.

He didn't call all of us ugly, but... nah, I'll save that comment for someone I can't stand and really want to piss off.

The thing is, Prostitutes have no real rights, so they have to keep small time and keep thier fees low, make it legal and thier prices will go up faster then oil.

That's economically impossible. Nothing could be more corrupt with rampant price gouging than the oil industry.

Prohibition raised the price of booze. Abolishing prohibition lowered the price of booze while raising the quality of a lot of it. So I don't think you're right there. Market forces, supply and demand, competition, etc. Anyway, I just think prostitution should be legalized to get rid of the pimps. If legalizing it wouldn't get rid of the pimps then I don't care either way. It'll happen anyway. Meanwhile the cops should be killing pimps and the Academy should take back that Best Original Song award.

If I hadn't already lost all faith I have in anyone in power being remotely intellectual, that award would have done it.

Well I know that the prostitues themselves are keen to go down this road of legalisation. I used to counsel quite a few women that were in this line of work. Basically all the major points in favour have been outlined above. One additional point is to legitimize what many of them feel is a legitimate line of work. Granted some did not wish to be in the profession, but even those that wuld rather be doing something else were in favour of legalisation. The safety factors alone is enough to win them over.

Sorry Spoony. I really thought about coming out and running the oppositions flag for a while just to help you with the argument side of things, but I just could go with it onceI started typing up the arguments against. They were just plain stupid in my mind.

I think most people don't worry about the girls safety and the men who pay for them, but rather worry about the endorsement of it.

They think if the government legalizes it then it makes it less wrong in young peoples eyes.

I'm not sure if that's true or not.

Honestly, as both a conservative and a Catholic, I can't really defend keeping it illegal. From a medical, economic, or legal standpoint, we're all better off with it legalized.

Medical- Prostitutes exist. You can't make them go away, but if you make 'em have licenses and medical checkups, you don't have them spreading disease. Healthier for them and everyone else, and public health is very important.

Economic- If we make 'em legal, we can tax 'em. Also, the less money that is filtering through black markets in criminal and illegal transactions, the higher our GDP. Stick in the glorious effect of the multiplier, and suddenly real velocity and nominal GDP will rise.

Legal- Pimps are bad and should be killed. I do mean that, and legalizing it would make free enterprise and self-employment in the business much easier. You don't need sleazy people to find customers for you when you just advertise in the phone book.

Anyone who really wants to gets laid and is willing to pay for it can do so. Just hang out on a college campus and you'll realize what I mean. Morals are so far down the tube that I can find women willing to sleep with me after half a night of making them pay for their own drinks. And if you've ever seen me, you'd probably find that scary. I just find it depressing.
Tolerance is another word for Apathy
