Simewise: The trouble is that I have never seen a single merit in the entire style, visually or story-wise. Ok, I lied. I liked the three episodes of FLCL I saw, because it knew that it was ridiculous, was totally insane, and played off of that instead of trying to make it into a serial drama. Other than that, I think the entire thing is just another product of industry eclipsing art and culture.

Spoon: I also concur about the tasteless juxtaposition of nice backgrounds with anime characters.

If some good new artistic styles came out, I wouldn't complain.

Well Slade, the Japs have mastered effectiveness versus number of frames, via using inbetween frames and such. But when you get down to it, it really just depends on the animator(s). Take for example the anime part of Kill Bill and that Linkin Park video. That's anime, yet it looks amazing. But aye, I agree up to a point. But that point also bans a lot of Western styles and several 3d animation methods.

Anyway, one Anime that I felt got really well served by the style and was totally straight faced, plain scary, adorable and addictive is Paranoia Agent.

Also, if anyone says anything about hentai being bad, I'll have to violate their cavities.

I'm not saying that I don't dislike other styles that I'd have to voice the same complaints about, just why I dislike Anime.
