While I in general pick and choose what parts of the EU I "accept" (a very small percentage I guess when push comes to shove) in this thread I'm really only talking about the films, and only admitting the films as part of the list.
Bottom line to answer that question for those who don't want to listen to me ramble off topic as to my "motivation":
You can mention the EU in here, just don't use it TO EXPLAIN AWAY AN INCONSISTENCY. THAT WON'T FLY IN THIS THREAD. Got it? Good. Referencing the other stuff can be useful for illustration, as that's what I've done many times myself but it cannot be THE ANSWER. I admitted that many of the issues HAVE been answered either by Lucas himself, or by his liscensed crack team of monkey commandos in the EU... or else they are pending such. And many "reasonable" fan explanations have been thought up.
I guess my "ulterior motive" was to come up with a "definitive list" of contradictions or inconsistencies between the two trilogies, both for the sake of my own curiosity (because it's such a common topic in these communities) and to use to answer those who often claim that such problems do not exist or have never considered such a thing. Part of that sounds like I'm being a "smart ass" but when it comes down to it, that's a pretty big part of Star Wars fandom on the internet, so if I'm guilty, fine, so are thousands of others, and especially somebody who would get upset about such a "list."
I'll be the first to admit I enjoy large chunks of the Prequels, and I consider them "canon" in every sense of the word when it comes to part of the Star Wars story. Like it or not, Star Wars is Lucas's baby. For better or for worse, he calls the shots. I don't agree with many of his creative decisions or the retconning of his own interview statements. The best I can do is cut to the movies, which for me are the most easily consumable of the franchise products and leave it at that. I play a lot of the video games, and I've read my fair share of novels and comics in the past, many of which I enjoyed, even if they were "guilty pleasures" in many cases.
So I guess in some ways I'm a gusher, because I like the "forbidden" parts of Star Wars like the Prequels, the EU and the Special Editions, but then so does ChefElf (correct me if I'm wrong, but he mentions parts of those things that he himself likes on his page). If he's not welcome on his own site, then something's wrong!
I don't consider myself a "basher" either because I don't consider the prequels irredeemable or the Special Edition changes all bad. I have my original original trilogy to fall back on, and I don't consider TPM that great of a film, even on its own, but I still own a copy.
Just getting that out in the open in case anybody missed the dozens of other posts where I've said as much in different words.
The list might be as comprehensive as we can get it right at the moment. Anybody else agree? Maybe this weekend I'll format up a better version if I have the time (but I may not), so anyone else is free to do so. You could put up a bulleted list on a site or something, just mention that I gave you the idea or link to this thread, whatever. Feel free to put notations by any contested ones that might need to be revised, and I'll give you a metaphorical cookie as reward!
