Yeah, that was the French.

America is a very nicely shaped country. Of course, tacking Canada on up at the top takes away from the aesthetic appeal immensely. But just America by itself, or especially America plus Mexico... Nice shape... Yep...

I hate the stereotypical belief that anyone who complains about America is unpatriotic.... people complain about the system because they care about what happens... I think that's far more admirable and 'patriotic' than waving a flag and sayin 'god bless' as you country burns thatched villages half way around the world...

I almost bought this game once, Future Risk. on the back of the game box it had a map of the world in the future. up in northern canada or greenland somewhere was the Exiled States of America. I think that would be really interesting if our country got so out of hand that we got exiled.

I think the US should take over Canada and Mexico, that way they can actualy be the "Unted States of America" or at least "Unted States of North America"

No, you're right, Barend.
If you were a citizen, I'd hold your say to a greater regard. sorcerer.gif

If a forum can have a thread which celebrates Letdowns AND Triumphs, does not National pride deserve it's due? Anyone is free to start an I Hate America thread, I suppose. It was my impression those already existed under other guises. But I've been wrong before.

For the record, I was certainly all for impeachment, while questioning military actions / international transfer of technology, a decade ago; do you wonder if I considered myself a patriot Then?

So, how Should a patriot act? smile.gif

Yes I think the USA calling itself the 'united states of America' is bit misleading...

The world thinks America is a country, and because of its title is forced to refer to it as such...
The block of land in the ocean is 'the Americas' divided into 'north America' and 'south America'

Two continents for the price of one, the bottom half is several countries and the upper is two (Mexico is mortar)...

but i think it's pretty stupid sounding when US customs officials say "welcome to America" to Mexicans and Canadians...

Why wouldn't they say "Welcome to the United States"? I agree with you, it's best to try to make a good impression when officially representing a country.

It's not "Welcome to Wal-Mart"! Wait. (Let me check your bags.)

There's nothing wrong with calling it "The United States of America." We're the only united states on the continent, as far as I can remember. Calling US citizens Americans is a little broad, but USers is unweildy... And if you're going from outside the continent, "welcome to America" still applies when you enter.

Why not call people living in The US of A, States...

That is call them States... so that way no one will be mislead, and Canadians will stop stealing State cable.
