Well, first of all, hi everyone!!
Second: I think everyone remember that scene in Returno fo Jedi where we see a tied Luke Skywalker concentrating hard to levitate C3PO, so that the Ewoks would think he is a god.
AGAIN: Concentrating HARD to do that. He closes his eyes(the Skywalker's theme show off), conentrate and the robot "flies".
Luke, the most powerfull Jedi ever. The one that Yoda had just said that he was already a Jedi Knight(all he needed was to defeat his father).
And just remember how Master Yoda had to concentrate to levitate Luke's X-wing!!!!
I have no problem with that, because I was thought that Jedi were just a little above normal beings, right?
Boy, how I was wrong about it...
----------------------- The Jedi in New Trilogy -------------------------------------------
In Episode 1, we see Jedi jumping, making acrobatic moves, pushing the robots alway and doing all that. Ok ok ok... Nothing wrong.
But in Episode 2, 3 and specially that Clone Wars cartoons, the Jedi has become super ultra mega Jedi Knights!!!!!!!! Iwoudnt get surprise if I see them flying around!! Now they can take a full army of droids by themselves(Mace Windu in Clone Wars)!!!!! Or can jump from cars with all sure that they wont get hurt(the beggining of Episode II) and can fight jumping around in a lava planet withoung fearing to get hurt(Episode III) or can throw easily heavy objects with no suffering(Like Yoda and Palpatine in Episode III)!!!!
And hey!!! I dont give a damn to that story that George lucas said that Obi-wan and Darth Vader did not jump around in Episode IV because they were old!! To me, it is clear that George Lucas has spent to much time watching Dragon Ball Z!!!!!

I think George Lucas would have something to say to this my friend.
"You can go to Hell." - George Lucas (Feb 1 2006, speaking to a fan asking George to donate money to her animal shelter.)

Maybe George felt that he had to compete with the Matrix films.
George once said he loves to make abstract films and claims that he still does. I guess that's why the prequels sucked - he got so fixated on making them abstract that he forgot to make them good.

I am the Fisher King.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an obi-wan to go.

Yeah, you see: that's one of the major differences between the OT and the PT. In the PT, anything supernatural comes easily to the Jedi. In the OT, Mark Hamill acts as if his skills are the result of a hard training.
Well...like I said...it's called 'acting'.
Someone totally forgot that part of movie making in the PT.

Not to mention, Jedi 1138, that Mark Hamill actually spent about a year or so doing the physical prep work for his role as Luke in ESB, which included weight training, gymnastics and Kendo - Japanese sword fighting. Poor Mark would not have had to work so hard, had the CGI been in place back in the late 70s - he could have coasted his way through the movies without actually working up a sweat!
I don't know if the actors/actresses in the PT can be blamed too much for the poor performances we saw. "Faster" and "More intense" don't really give them much to go by. I wonder what kind of performances someone like Spielberg, Coppola or Scorsese (friends of George's, no less!) could have gotten out of the cast?

Ah, yes. Thanx for reminding me, milady.
I think it's really to see that Mark put some hard work into his character.
I also think that it is a bit hard to compare the fighting scenes of the OT with those of the PT. What do we get there? Ray Park as Darth Maul, who, in real life, is a martial arts expert and Wu Shu trainer. And Christopher Lee, who also had a liftime experience in fencing.
So, maybe the only lightsaber duell that could be compared to the ones in the OT is the one final clash on Mustafar. Do I like that? Yes, I actually think that Ewan Mc Gregor and Christiansen did a lot of rehershal. I think - as far as the actors job in a movie like RotS goes - they tried hard.
My own kendo experience tells me that some of the stuff is over the top...but, hey, it's for entertainment, isn't it?
Otherwise I think they relied on their stunt coordinator instead of learning a martial art themselfs.
(Like someone on a martial arts board once pointed out...with the technology at hand, even Tom Cruise can look like a hard working martial artist as Ray Pak or even like Bruce Lee.)
Maybe one of the reasons why I still prefer the OT duells over the ones we see in the PT.
And regarding the Super Jedi again...if I am not mistaken, Lukes leap to the catwalk in his final confrontation with Vader in RotJ was described in the shoting script as 'incredible'. Then what is jumping out of a speeder and landing on top of another one, 20ty floors later??

you know, Luke DID have to balance C3P0 on that chair... that requires more consentration than hurling an empty senate booth at someone's head!
