Cell phone software creates bogus backgrounds

Tuesday, March 9, 2004

Pretending to be stuck in traffic during a mobile phone call could become much easier using software that generates fake background noise.

SoundCover, developed by a Romania phone software company called Simeda, can add artificial traffic and road works to a call at the press of a button. It can mimic a thunderstorm, the dentists drill or even a circus during a call.

Different backgrounds can also be assigned to different phone numbers so that they automatically kick in when a certain person calls. The software can even create the sound of another phone ringing to provide a handy excuse for cutting short a call.

Yeah, cause there's no better cover than "Baby, I'm late, I'm stuck at the circus ".

or, "Sorry, I was taking a jog when these germans started asking me about some diamonds, they said i could make a quick call before they start torturing me, so I'm sorry, but we'll have to do dinner another time. uh, oh, here comes the dentist drill..."

I bet that excuse would work.

I actually pulled that with a girl in highschool that used to call me all the time. One time I had a sound effect CD and I played the screeching tires sound effect so that I'd have an excuse to get off the phone. It seems cruel now but at the time there was just no way to get off the phone. After three hours of phone conversation one has had enough.

Yes that had occured to me, Jordan. However there were certain factors involved that made it so that the feeling wasn't mutual.

...like the fact that she was only a half-elf so your parents would never have approved.

In my history of relationships, It has been I that made the first move and showed the initial interest. I only once had a girl show interest in me. I too was not attracted to her. In a way it scared me, I'm so used to making the first move, that when the first move was pulled on me, It caught me off guard and freaked me out.

see now listen here!

i'm sick of all this guy makes first move crapp! I hate in when a girl makes no obvious hints that dhe likes you, then after three months of building up the courage to some thing about it she says something like "oh, I've really really liked you since we first met." meaning that you've wasted three months on a girl you have been having much more fun with all that time!!!

I like girls that are obvious about liking me! I just wish they weren't so rare! infact unlike you superficial bastards and your "certain factors" just too proove a point I'm going to with the next girl that shows interest!
(the length of the relationship maybe subject to certain factors)

See now this is only a problem when you don't take the chance yourself and let it be known you're interested straight away. I've always believe in putting yourself out there and when you let her know you're interested then you soon find out where she stands too.

It doesn't have to be a first move as such, it can be a mutual thing. My current girlfriend and I kind of hit it off together. One of those scenarios where whenever either of us looked over to the other we were already looking at them.

I also feel for you Nate, it's a real hassle when someone just refuses to accept that you are not interested. Of course it also helps if you tell them. wink.gif

Not all reasons to not date a person are superficial. For example, what if they ran over your puppy? On purpose? What if they are standing in a giant hole in the middle of the sea with Brutus, Cassius and Judas in their mouth? What if they like "Everbody Loves Raymond"? That's just not a situation you want to get yourself into.
