Why the HELL did Lucas add the Vader/Shuttle scene in Empire?

It breaks the continuity, the music cue is sloppy, everything about it sucks. SUCKS.

Lucas has become a bit... I don't know..

Let's See, he originally done Han Shooting First than Greedo.
then, when the Special Editions came out, Greedo Shot first
then the DVD came out and now they shot at the same time.

I mean what's his problem?
Why change, then change again?
why even change in the first place, if it was his ideia in the Special Edition to match is original vision, surely he could have Greedo shot first (or at the same time) in 1977, there was no technical problems in this scene that could obscure his vision, right?

Then Luke scream when jumping after his hand is cut in ESB, he put the scream (which does not seem Mark Hamill's voice) in the special Edition, then remove it again for the DVD 2004 edition.

No wonder the PT is a mess, either the guy does not know what he wants for his own movies or his making fun of all the OT fans!

The shuttle scene does no bother me, however Vader's voice seems different from the rest of the movie, is that really James Earl Jones voice?

Have been enjoying the DVDs for the most part. If one's listening for the most part while at work on the computer, it's not that different. But I've yet to see Ep. 5.

(sigh) Of course there are awful differences. And I have the tapes if I want to trade altitude for airspeed.

The ep 4 commentary with Lucas was interesting, and I've become more convinced that he's a slave to one demanding audience. One he's not hesitant to tweak or annoy at any opportunity. Does anyone else feel the disdain? What an inspiration he must have been on the "set".

The commentary in ROTJ is also interesting, Lucas says the if he knew Boba Fett was so popular he would not have killed him the way he did, also he states "everybody hates ewoks".

he seems slave of the demands of the people who see his movies (jar jar was totally written out of AOTC and ROTS) but on the other hand he refuses to release the original theatrical versions of the OT with the lame excuse that the Specials editions are "his vision". So does he want to show in the movies is vision? or the demands of the audience?

I personally don't understand Lucas, I don't understand what drives him to make changes, if money, if his vision, if he's believe that by changing things he will reach more audience.

The scene with Vader returning to his Star Destroyer from Cloud City annoys me more than Greedo shooting first, Luke's yell, or even the "Jedi Rocks" part in Jabba's palace.

I'm just amazed at how...contradictory Lucas can be, or he just comes across as confused or oblivious, but then other times he isn't. I really think he has some psychological problems, but then I'm no psychiatrist... I just know if I knew someone like him personally I would've already hauled off and belted him...

But to stay on topic: new shuttle scene sucks. Vader's redubbed voice just doesn't have the same 'bite' as the old one did. It almost sounds like he's ordering out for chicken...

Just as a silly aside, I was watching "The Incredibles" and Syndrome's line to Mirage, "...and invite him to dinner..." totally reminded me of the Special Edition Vader line...same impact.

I remember that scene from the SE at the cinema. Kind of off-settling. Even after the scream.

Have been watching the dvds and have yet to see ESB. I appreciate the heads-up. Now I know when to leave the room. thumbsup.gif

if lucas ever enters another endevor...

my only hope is that he writes everything down first.

this will have two major advantages i forsee;
1. he can edit everything BEFORE he starts shooting, and not twenty or more years later.
2. two decades when he says, 'this was my original vision', he shall at least be in a position to "proove it!" when asked...

I think he added the Shuttle scene to change the run time of ESB as opposed to the original release to differentiate the two among distributors making it a "new" movie. The way the shuttle was done isn't cutting edge SPFX or CGI even, its a lot of reused footage shot during ROTJ using the model and repositioning the stuff against the Vespin backdrop. The Star Desproyer bay showing the officers greeting Vader also looks stupid, because the head Imperial dude could have said "hey, we were going to capture the Falcon but I had to get my ass down to the landing bay to greet you...." if Vader was going to try to Force-choke him. Did anyone really have a major dilemma figuring out how Vader got to his Star Destroyer, thereby necessitating the scene's inclusion? I'd rather see the outtake of Lando needing to go outside the Falcon to pull Luke in, at least that makes sense since he did lose a hand and was exhausted from the fight and dangling from the wind vane.

As for the Greedo shooting first scene, its a big distraction as wel, making ANH a victim of political correctness at Lucas' hand. Before when you saw ANH, Han could have been a bad guy that Ben and Luke were desperate to employ the services of because they had to get off tattooine in a hurry, and he could have been a bad guy who ditched them somewhere, so there was an element of suspense. Now Greedo shoots first. That, coupled with the Jabba hanger scene establishes Han as a good guy from the beginning, a character pretty much who has his choices made for him in joining the Rebellion right off. And why would Han fear Jabba if he walked on his tail, and the big crime lord comes down personally to plea for his payment? Doesn't he have people to do that for him? And if one of them gets fried, why would he give a damn when in ROTJ people are dropping off left and right for his amusement and all he needs is a good supply of those snack frogs to keep going?
