Im sure its great and all, but 3 HOURS from source material of, what, 1hr 30min? someone let the monkey off the leesh.

Oh yeah, its all those Oscars he got. I forgot.

Saw it on opening night. It's completely different from the original in terms of script. Same locations and characters and all, but it's vastly improved and expanded. There wasn't one thing from that movie that should have been cut, Jackson knows what he's doing. If had been shorter, the pacing would have been ruined.

I find CGI annoying, and unrefined. The effects were incredible, and Serkis doing Kong was truly great, down to every last facial expression, I just still can't shake the unrealism of it all. Don't get me wrong, compared to every other CGI movie out there, Kong is top notch. But yeah, there are scenes they didn't need to use it. Like when Darrow touches Kong's arms and stuff in closeup it becomes very blatanly CGI just the way the light doesn't fall on it quite right. Who knows, maybe they ran out of money to buy props or something.

Well, I heard Jakcon used all of the budget and he had to use his money to finish the film.

Anyways, Jackson has said that he doesn't like the 76' version, Despondent.
Sorry, you won't be seeing a smartass sig here. Try with the next poster.

saw it on saturday...
kablamo!!! that movie had everything!!!

i akways thought that it kind of sucked that kong was dragged out to new york to be shot down in the old versions, but the big ape was a just a bad guy....

in this you really side with him.

(i also love that they had Sirkus play the chef as well.)

and damn naomi watts is cute, she needs to come back and hang around mosman again...

but anyway...

awsomely awsome film! Kongs movements are amazing and intense...

and this film backed up my beleif that no matter how much you risk to save a girl, she'll prefer the big psychotic violent jerk over the brainy artistic type.

so you're the person they're talking about when critics say: "if you only see one movie this year..."

I just saw it today, and all I can think to say is that I am in absolute awe.

I watched the original 1933 version on AMC a few days ago just so I would have the general gist of what I was going to see (I never really got past "giant monkey, pretty girl, climbing the Empire State Building" thing before), but even knowing what was supposed to happen everything just blew my mind. I actually stopped trying to look for special effects flaws about twenty minutes after Kong first appeared just so I could hone all my attention in on the characters, and my brain just went numb for over an hour after the movie finished just from the emotional overload.

Absolute Favorite Bit: When they have Kong on stage and they do the "recreation" of the sacrifice ritual - that was exactly how it was in the original! Music, dancing, people in ape costumes and all! And you just get the feeling that it's so...disrespectful, they're just making a mockery of the whole thing...

You know what the funny thing is? My first interest in this movie was just, "Hey! Jack Black's in it! Cool!"

I think I started a Kong thread about this time last year when I found that out. Was he decent?

Oh yeah, he was fantastic! He actually made me not really like his character (especially in act three), which is pretty hard for me to do when I already like the actor.

Agreed. The real question should be which to see first.
