I know what you are all thinking, but the commercial for this movie gave me chills the other day. It actually gave me chills. So i decided to pop in my vhs recording of the old one and watched it.(better now that i am old enough to care about the plot, not just the giant ape eating people.) I am really excited. Before this, i only had two must-see-in-theaters movies, Narnia and harry potter, (have yet to see them) but now King Kong has topped them both. The scenes in the trailer, where the old WWII planes approach, WOW, it just gave me serious chills. Peter jackson wont let me down, this will be great.

And it's getting good reviews. If it were SW, at this point the prequel camp would be countering.
It's interesting that so much of KK is CGI and there's not that criticism a PT film would automatically receive. I'm not validating the Lucas approach. However, I am looking forward to a methodically produced example of this technology without the Mucas touch.

Could be because George Lucas is a CGI addict who overuses CGI to the extremes, no doubt as an extension of his control freak personality. Since perfecting CGI takes forever, some prefer to use it only sparingly and continue to opt for models or men in prosthetic make-up, etc.

I think you hit the nail on the head, Lord Aquaman.And that's the problem with boldly presenting an understood presentation in a completely different medium. Lucas was in such a rush to stay ahead of the SFX/CGI schedules (an environment where the response to "do that! do this!" becomes far less immediate), that motive and voice were to a great extent ignored.
Until post-production of course.

The movie looks great. I agree with Revan, the trailer was *bleeping* amazing.
However, I still haven't seen the 1933 version. Damn my luck!

The difference is that SW has so much stuff that didn't need to be CGI that was. I'm sure that it's pretty hard to get cool fight scenes with a guy in a monkey suit.
It was great to see that some of the models in Narnia were actually guys in suits. I think they look more real than the shiny CGI.

King Kong is 'virtually' a guy in a suit.
Andy Sirkis (Gollum) and Weta Digital have teamed up again to make Kong. He is not a straight up CGI creation, he is based on the movements of Sirkis as gollum was. And he studied apes, so what we get should be pretty awsome.
