even as a kid, and i was raised christian for the first 7 years, i never liked the Aslan/christ parallel... but it only bears any significance in like one scene...

the story is a good yarn, and i'll wager worthy of a cinematic viewing...
if you see only one movie this year, the oscars won't make much sense when you view them on TV.

Watching the trailer, I was thinking "a huge battle scene? where the hell is that in the book?", before realising theyve knocked together something for the LotR's crowd based on about 6 lines in the book.

In the book, there was a battle. However, it involved only a handful of people. They're exagerrating quite a bit, it seems. I still have to go see it, though. C.S. Lewis is da man.

I am writing about Jm in my signature because apparently it's an effective method of ignoring him.

No, there was a big battle. With talking horses and non-talking horses and kids with swords and well described gore...

Maybe it's in another book, though.

Yeah, it was conveniently titled, The Last Battle. I liked that book alot, even though it did kind of assert that muslims worship satan...

I've read the Screwtape Letters, and I enjoyed it. It's a very nontraditional perspective, and kind of jabs at the human race a bit. But I prefer C.S. Lewis's fantasy/sci-fi.
(Yes, Data is holding Threepio's head.)

Whenever someone watches this movie, would somebody please let me know if it's suitable for an 8-year old?

I have only read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and I must say that it's a great book. I'm planning to read the whole Narnia saga. Anyways, I loved the idea of a Santa Claus that gave weapons to children. smile.gif

Barend, I'm not 8, I promise. I'm 19, but I have a little brother.

I really hated The Last Battle. It was just bleh and overly serious and to be perfectly honest I didn't quite understand it at the time, and I don't quite understand why I still don't like it.

It's just bleh and icky and real and NOBODY ACTS THE WAY THEY SHOULD! It doesn't seem like REAL fantasy in the same way that palm trees don't seem like REAL trees. It's not really anything like the other books.

What I don't understand is why people are making such a big deal about the religious theme. Yeah, normally I would get really pissed off about those kinds of things (I'm agnostic), but that's just how the story goes, and I'm not going to shun a classic piece of literature just because it's not entirely secular. Aside from the obvious references (Sons of Adam/Daughters of Eve, and Aslan on the Stone Table, etc.), it's not like you can't read it like it's any other fantasy. It's a brilliant, beautiful story no matter how you choose to interpret it.

I'm actually going to be quite disappointed if they sacrifice story for huge battle scenes...
