Northerners tops in denture use

A whopping 97 percent of all persons over age 67 in Northern Norway wear dentures. The startling statistic came to light in a doctoral thesis prepared by a Norwegian dentist.

Birgitte Moesgaard Henriksen studied the teeth of elderly residents in Flakstad in Nordland County and Hasvik in Finnmark County. She interviewed both those living in nursing homes and those living on their own.

In contrast to extensive use of dentures in the north, more than 60 percent of those over age 67 in southern and southeastern Norway still had and used their own teeth, reported Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

this is serious, dental maintainence is of the uttmost importance and the poor state of cavitorial infestation and dentine errosion in the earlderly population of norway could be a catalyst for a worldwide epidemic of mediocre oral standarts.
