this was punishment with humour.

i've known pleanty of kids who were chronically late, back talkers, and genrally poor students.

and belive me, you don't want to know some of the colorful places to which it can lead.

this girl wasn't just having poor grades, she had a serious attitude problem towards her educators, and people with whome her parents had entrusted care of for the hours she spent there.

her mother was was making a point and took the least sever punishment imaginable.

i don't this excercise will have left any scars...

this wasn't even 'tough love' ... she made her duaghter feel embaressed and said see how this feels you'll be doing lots of it, like it? no? good.

christ...

no ones presuring her, but parents are there to prevent kids from growing up with a completely chaotic attitude.

ararchy is great, but millions of undiciplined teenagers entering the world has resulted in the rude fucks i pass everyday in the street who deserve to torn apart for their bullshit attitude.

some kids are lucky, and grow up picking the right path without guidence. But over all there's no point having jails in society if you really feel that strongly against punishment.

what would you have done JM?

I'm with Barend on this one.

I must have gotten a spank here and there from my parents being a child, but the main thing that prevails when I think of my childhood was that my parents were being "fair":

I messed up, I was "paying" for it baby. Towards my high-school years they didn't even had to say anything to me.. just the look on their face was enough for me to be embarrased by what I did (and was a pretty stupid kid, doing a lot of stupid things).

I look at parents today I can't see any of that: they either rotten-spoil their kids, or they ignore their kids's problems to the point that they simply crack up.

We should have like a pop-quiz that you have to take before you are even allowed to have children. I mean, they don't let you drive before you can show you are capable of driving, but you can have a human being under your responsability.. and none is asking if you have what it takes.
I know that you believe you understood what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you read is not what I meant.

i've been pushing for the parent licence for a while (that and the drinking licence).

maybe people should own a dog first, if they're thinking on kids...

let's see how far they get on the no jumping on the table to eat your food or shit in the house policy, without any kind of diciplinary action.

I have gathered opinions on this from the general public. A rough quoting of one such scandalized bystander:

"But that girl's an idiot! I mean, she was getting C's, sure, but if she was talking back to teachers-"
"If her parents can get her to listen to them by doing that, why not?"
"Dude, if that were me, I'd, like have all my friends there, too-"
"Yeah, I'd be standing right next to you."
"It probably works better than a detention."
"Did you see the picture? The mother's, like, smiling and "I love my daughter!" and the daughter's like "Get away from me, mom."

At this point the conversation broke down due to one of the participants breaking down into hysterical laughter with cornbread in her mouth, thus spewing a surrounding ten foot area with crumbs.
"YOU'RE MISSING A PERIOD. YOU THINK IT'S FUNNY, DON'T YOU? YOU THINK IT'S FUNNY THAT YOU FUCK WITH GRAMMAR? WELL, FUCK YOU AND FUCK YOUR MISSING PERIOD! I HOPE IT MEANS YOUR SLUTTY, NON-PUNCTUATED WAYS HAVE GOTTEN YOU TEEN-PREGNANT!"

Mirithorn, being a movie director or an author or a musician or a bounty hunter is a hell of a lot more interesting than being a doctor. And none of those things are easier to do if you go to college.

Actually, you're wrong there. There is film school, and while you can be an equally good director without the training, it's harder to do. And my friends father teaches composing at college, so I'm pretty sure that you have to have that. And if you mean, for example, rock musician... I wouldn't put any money on succeeding, even if you do sing/play well naturally. The majority of singers ar guitarists aren't exactly self taught.

Nah, it not only works but is better. Not only is it more acceptable in conversations with tight-asses who have a thing against profane words, but it is also gender nuetral alowing Tasha, Christy, and Jan to join the fun as well.

Edit: Jm, you wouldn't happen to go on rpg.net as well would you?

it's still a vulgarity-violation by nature, so either way you still come off as commoner. And if you're going to do that you may as well say 'cock' to at least have the pleasure of causing one monocle to fall into a flute of champagne.

...and what was that about a cock ring OTal?

My dad is a self taught guitarist, and thats how he makes his living, playing gigs around town. He did go to college, but he majored in spanish. So basically, If he hadn't gone to college, he would have been just as sucessful as he is now, except he would have had less student loans to pay off. My mom went to law school though, so shes in a profession that actually does require an education, but theres no way I'm being a lawyer.

Obligatory link to my dads webpage.

EDIT: I should note that there are a few pictures of me on the site where I look like a giant dork, but I swear I'm not.

I agree.

This message was brought to you in part by Jesus is Hitler... For all your... Jesus is Hitler needs?

On that note, does anyone know who will be the only person remembered from the the entire of history? That's right, Adolf Hitler. In the entire of Human History, only Hitler, one of the most evil men that ever walked the earth will be remembered. Its nice to see that the world has some sense of justice. Of course that is assuming no-one else comes along and murders a few millions more people. Mind you, I can just imagine future school kids writting about Hitler and his battles with the Duke of Wellington, and then returning to have tea and crumpets with a couple of Roman generals.
