I think of it as an old timer telling about his experiences in the vietnam war...he probably didnt kill all those people, but you just smile and nod and let them think whatever they want.

And here, we are letting Leia think what she wants.

You know, just to pull one straw off the flattened camel at the bottom of the haystack, but you know how everybody was pissed that it was the Clone War (singular, not plural)? Well, technically you could say it's the Clone War(s), because in Episode III they made to show the combat going on on multiple planets (at least five, I don't count the one where Aayla Secura gets killed because it just looks like they were doing some patrols with no enemies in sight), not just one (Geonosis) like in the previous episode. It's still silly that Yoda automatically calls it "The Clone War" right at the start though. The only explanation is that he's a genius at starting catch phrases (it would be like some German general saying immediately after the invasion of Poland "Begun, World War II has").

But those are different "theatres". It wasn't world wars II, battled around the globe.

True enough, but WW2 was still confined to one planet. I'm sure there wasn't just one theater fought on each planet shown in the prequels.

Or would you say the only correct way to call it "the clone wars" would be to have seperate wars occuring over a long period of time, with similar themes? Ie: sort of like calling our earth conflicts "the world wars."

Other earth examples: the "Wars of Religion" or the "Punic Wars."

Why call them The Clone Wars at all - the clones were just mindless bulletsponges. It was the Jedi and the ... whoever the Jedi were fighting (cant seem to recall just who they were fighting at the moment). More like, instead of calling it WWII, it would be called The Tank and Machine Gun War. The clones were just the medium - like unmanned arial vehicles.

But wouldn't people call it The Tank War if only tanks were used?

Yoda didnt calll it The Clone WARs. he said "begun this clone war has", simply stating that a war had started that had clones in it. its sad that i have to break that down so far.
