I hope you recognise that I was not talking about prostitution as a profession, but about the GTA series of games, which you were defending on the grounds that they promoted a profession that was "not that bad."

Nope. I did not.

It did sound like it was referring to prostitution in general.

I hope you recognise that I was not talking about prostitution as a profession, but about the GTA series of games, which you were defending on the grounds that they promoted a profession that was "not that bad." The GTA series of games do NOT promote prostitution as you describe it. I wouold say that they don't promote it at all of course, but they DEPICT it as fucking streetwalkers for health and then murdering them for their money. They DEPICT the most negative aspects of the industry.

Back on topic: I don't remember STAR WARS making me think. I don't see that as a requirement of a children's movie anyhow. I remember it being entertaining. THE PHANTOM MENACE I didn't find entertaining. Hard to say if I would have liked it as a kid; when I was 10 I recognised that BATTLESTAR GALACTICA was terrible.

Call me old-fashioned, but I don't understand the GOOD qualities of prostitution. Maybe you're right, civ... maybe GTA doesn't 'promote' prostitution. It does portray prostitution. My whole point in bringing it up is that a game that portrays prostitution, drugs, gratuitous violence, murder, and running from police is a far greater evil than a game that simply promotes witchcraft, or sorcery. I'd let my children play Harry Potter before I even let them take a glance at what GTA has to offer.

I don't remember the OT making me think, but when I first saw the movies of the OT, I was in between the ages of 3 and 10. I didn't have to think. I was a kid, and to me, they were really cool movies. Now, at almost 31 years old, I do have to think when I watch the entire SW collection. There are a lot of hidden things in each movie.

I agree, the OLD Battlestar Galactica was terrible, but the new one... awesome. I was skeptical at first, but I saw the pilot episode and have been watching it ever since. I still need to go buy the second season on DVD.

Or a compilation?

Well, I THINK that the second season, though it may be the third, was divided into two ten-part sections.

video games are the next level of story telling. rather than watch scarface you can be in it with GTA:VC....

that's not evil... it's just a game. and it's a parents duty too insure a child can differentiate between games and reality.

i know alot of kids who can... i know i could.

parents are just lazy reactionary assholes who would rather fuck up everyones fun than have the odd word with their kid.

SW:OT made me think alot... it really did alot for my imagination...
it filled me with wonder and thoughts on what it would be like on a practical level to live in such a galaxy with such diverse cultures and the technology to move so swiftly between different systems.

so much was said of the past in these films that painted such wonderful images...

not the CGI crapfest of no nobility that came to us like cold spring rolls cooked in too much oil, meatless and shrivelled and at a time when we were ready for the fortune cookies...

I know what you mean about frakking up the fun. I don't play GTA:VC not because it's violent, or immoral, but because I don't like gangstah.

So, you're saying it's a good quality to give ugly people false hope? I still don't see the good qualities of prostitution. I don't care how unnattractive a person may be. There's ALWAYS somebody out there for everybody. To say that there is good in prostitution is like saying there's nothing wrong with paying someone to have sex with you because you don't want to take a stab at being even the slightest bit confident about yourself. But, hey... to each his own. I'd rather stay at home and have steak, than to go out for hamburger.

It's the lesser of two evils for kids that shouldn't be playing this game in the first place. I'm not condoning random acts of violence, prostitution, or breaking the law, but I have GTA:SA, and I view it as an outlet for my aggression. I no longer have any need to follow old people to the nursing home to beat them to death after cutting me off in traffic. Now I can do it on a video game.

I'm not saying kids shouldn't have games, I just think parents should recognize what is good or bad for their children, instead of trying to ruin everyone else's fun. Video games are great for kids. They help build hand-eye coordination and young imaginations. I just don't think it's right for kids that aren't old enough to know the difference between right and wrong to be playing an 'M' rated game.

Speaking of imagination, hell yes... the OT sparked mine as well. I think part of our problem is that we've grown too old for some of the things we grew up with to be considered 'cool' anymore. Now they're either 'nostalgic' or 'lame'. I still think the OT's cool, though. It has withstood the test of time, which makes it cool, but at the same time, classic. Good analogy with the spring rolls.

More likely an ugly guy with little money or status would go out for steak or stay home with hamburger.

I don't believe that there is someone for everyone. Who's waiting for this guy?

Of course there are professional prostitution practices and then there are despicable practices. The events you described are very real and utterly tragic. I of course am supporting the upscale escort services and burlesque houses where women work for themselves and receive exorbitant amounts of money for 5 minutes worth of work. Having to fuck for pimps and crack rocks is never ok.
Because spinach is chock full of nutrients and tasty goodness. I always thought they had him eat spinach because they were trying to trick kids into eating something healthy that they normally wouldn’t like to eat. Like broccoli.

I figured since the sources of super powers are always something obscure and unknown (being exposed to gamma radiation, bitten by radioactive spider, etc), Popeye's was a kind of tongue-in-cheek secret of the universe kind of thing. I mean how many people do you know that actually eat spinach? Some guy does it and suddenly he has incredible strength!

Plus, maybe some spinach growers slipped the animator a few bucks. wink.gif

I've never eaten spinach. I was served it once as a kid and never ate it, because it looked like grass somebody had chewed up and puked out. Oh well... I was a wuss as a kid.

That's the weird thing, lots of kids that age will eat sand, glue, snot, toothpaste, worms, dirt, on a dare or just out of curiosity but not anything green and healthy!

charging someone doesn't give them false hope! batting one's eyelids while some poor fool buys you drink after drink is giving false hope.

prostitues are quite honest about the situation.

someone out there for everyone?

that's just something women made up to give us false hope and stop us from starting fight club.

alot of people 'take a stab' at being confident but are undercut by rednecks with more money, or better looking.

we live in a superficial world that is unbalanced... the ugliest girl will find a huusband before the ugliest guy will get a sympathy kiss.

And yet you will defend the man who made the prequels solely for the purpose of using Star Wars as his own personal masturbatory aid.

'Cause let's face it, no self-respecting woman, of the night or otherwise, ever wants to get anywhere near that much concentrated lard, hair, and flannel. 3.5 Billion dollar Empire be damned.
