I rarely use them myself. I have no need for mentats, as I focus on Int as it is. I only use buffout for arm wrestling the mutant, and for when i need to boost endurance for various sexual parts, such as becoming a pornstar. I use medkits when i have to, but I prefer to rest.

It was a bit different in the first game where the ticking timebomb of water supplies (and later on, the desire to get a good end sequence) kept you from resting constantly.

one day i'm going to do a junkie version of the game.

set all my henchman to 'use any drug any of the time' and devote the whole game to securing a stockpile of jet and buffout!

That's brilliant! Actually, come to think of it, after finishing the game, I went back to New Reno, and some of the hookers suggested playing as a drug addict, saying it was the only way to go.

I gots a question for you guys. I just managed to pick up a copy of Fallout 2 after months of searching, and I'm really excited about it. The only thing is, I haven't played the first one. Is it necessary to play it to understand the second?

And, if anyone would be so kind as to try to let me have a copy of the first...

Upload it there and give me the link? The site is free.

You'd don't need to play the first to understand the second, the manual for the sequel has a decent enough introduction that explains the back story.

As for uploading a copy; Interplay may be dead, but forum rules still apply. tongue.gif

Oops, forgot about the rules :P

Just my luck, it doesn't come with the manual.

I also picked a copy some time ago (reason why I had not played it before - it is not in English), but I thought I would give it a shot over Christmas so I took it to my parents to play on our laptop...And the bloody thing did not run (out of my billion attempts to start it it started the total of three). And then I read on the package that it was not designed for Windows XP. Parhaps that was thre reason...

And I managed to play enough to get interested. And it probably won't run on the home computer, which also has Windows XP...oh well, just my luck.

I borrowed it off a friend, and did the full install. It seemed to run fine off XP.

As for the story, Floppy, it's OK. The starting movie gives you enough of a synopsis. I played the second without playing the first and without a manual.

Okay. Now to find Fallout 1.

I also managed to get Fallout Tactics, is that any good?

It's certainly not bad, not fallout, but more like Jagged alliance and X-com. (A decent enough pedigree)

Give it a shot once you've played the first 2 and understand the character generation, and to get to know the Brotherhood of steel somewhat.
