I don't use cheats, seeing as games aren't fun if you've got a gaurenteed win, but for some levels on otherwise good games (Far Cry), you need cheats. I still can't beat Far Cry because I can't figure out how to work the god mode thing.

By and large, I tend to avoid them, apart from pumping a little extra cash into Theme Hospital at the start of each level. You know, nothing big.

The only time I use cheats is for a game that has a code required for an unlockable character or something, or for the occaisional walkthrough. If I didn't have the walkthrough, I would STILL be trapped in that one pit room with the skulls on the wall in Tomb Raider. Yup, stupid pushy block.

Oh, yes. I use walkthroughs extensively when I get stuck in games, but only since it's not very fun running around in the same room for a half hour till you find the solution to the puzzle. It's always been more about story and gameplay for me.

Very true Floppydisk, very true....and there are games like the Legend of Mana that you cannot beat 100% if you don't have a walkthrough, so I think that the occaisional cheat is okay, unless you are cheating on your taxes, or on your girlfriend, then that's probably not so much.

But cheating on your boyfriend is ok? For shame wink.gif

I use cheats occaisionally, but usually in games I've already finished. For example, I nearly always cheat in Morrowind these days, as I can't be bothered working my stats up and just want to go for a walk or finish a guild that I haven't done before.
edit: Not to mention those stupid assasins that attack after installing Tribunal. They kill my level one characters before I have a chance to fight back. Bastards.

i always play a game through before trying the cheats....

but it's fun to fuck around in a game you won't save as well...

rpgs are great because you alter your stats...

KOTOR 1 is fun when all your stats are up at 30.

fallout is even better, because you can DL a character cheat sheet.
i had my unarmed damage at like 300. i would punch people and they would explode, and with extra action points, i'd just run up to mutant with a minigun and put my fist right through his chest...

god i love that sound

Ah, but then you cannot get 100% completion, and your life as a consequence will be meaningless!

Well, I start a new character. I screw around Seyda Neen, the stilt strider to Balmora to visit Casius. Do a few more things, decide I need more health and mana. So I sit down to rest. The next thing I know, I'm woken by somebody screaming "Die Fetcher!". The Dark Brotherhood assassin throws a dart, and before I have a chance to dodge, my poor first level character is dead. So it's a case of reload, pull down console, player -> set'x' 100, where x is all my attributes and skills.

Vice City pissed me off, I got stuck on 99%. I checked the walkthrough and the only thing left was one hidden package. But a glitch in the game meant that it didn't appear where it was supposed to. And I'm buggered if I'm going through it all again!

I'm on 86% on San Andreas at the moment, but I haven't picked it up in a while.
