A new hope for Star Wars fans
Tuesday February 10, 2004

Star Wars fans can start salivating now: the restored and remastered Episodes IV, V and VI are to be released on DVD for the first time this autumn.

Lucasfilm has announced the September 21 rollout in the US of a four-disc box set, comprising Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi as well as an extras disc of documentaries and unseen footage.

Star Wars purists might be disappointed to learn that the box set will feature not the original theatrical releases but director George Lucas's 1997 special editions of the films, complete with extra technological tweaking and added footage.

Surprise, surprise. Confirmation of yet more disappointing news from the Lucasfilm camp. I suppose our original trilogy VHS tapes are just going to slowly degenerate and we are never to get a good quality digital copy of the original way the movies were shown.

But restored and remastered doesn't mean that he messed with them! (Right?)
I mean.. these are like the original theatrical releases/? right? I hope? I don't have a good copy...

And I just was gonna get set on transfering my Taped version to DVD..

Here is the slashdot story on it as well.

Eh they're still the same basic movies, thank god they're actually gonna be on DVD. And anyway, just be thankful that he hasn't made them a super-special edition with new filmed scenes. As someone on here said. "He has altered the movies. Pray he does not alter them any further".

That's just the thing, he HAS edited them further. Read the articles, there's gonna be even MORE new stuff.

DAMN IT!

i read an article this morning that said the originals are being released, but it lead me to the impression that he had caved in and was releaseing them in their original format, just a little remastered...

Look on the bright side, Chef can now do at least 150 more "reasons to hate" now that all 3 OT are being tampered with.

I m looking forward to it!

i read the articles, where does it say anything about new footage that doesn't involve behind the scenes stuff and this huge documentary they're talking about?

Suppose it makes more sen$e to put out an OT set in '04 and the PT set in '05. more folks could afford a 3-pic set than a 6-load. He has more money, faster. and the prequel haters that are uninformed think they're getting "remastered" copies, and can establish pride in that. ("He bowed to the pressure, man. No way I'm buying that new crap!")

I'm just thinking of the disappointment when someone hears on Christmas day 05 "you liked your present so much last year I KNEW what I had to get you. do you like it?"

Not that it'll be the last we hear of Lucas' take on Eps 1-3, IV-VI, I'd wager.

if he has such a problem with the original trilogy and has no concearn for what fans of the OT really think or feel...

why doesn't he just do a remake!!! then all the idiots who worship the new crap will get their stupid versions of the OT and as a bonus he can save time and effort by bluescreening the whole damn thing!!!

he may as well....

IN FACT I hope he tracks down EVERY copy of SW:OT and burns them all!!!

fuck Star wasr from beginning to end! that news was too much for me. quite frankly if this is the "Genius" at work, skrew him!!! may all his work perish and be forgotten. ALL OF IT!!! i don't want to remember any of it.

lets have a massive burning and destroy it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vwing, sorry. I read two different articles and posted this one. There was another article that talked about it but now I can't seem to find it. Apparently there is going to be a little bit more additional footage and a few extra tweaks. I'll see if I can find the link.

yep. and put a wring on Lucas' neck and toss him into the lake of fire.

<http://www.theforce.net/holonet/index.shtml> has a round up of articles and the official party line's take. I was surprised they mentioned how the OT fans feel. they did stick up for the artist's license.

what if the crazy nut who hammered off a toe from Michelangelo's pieta at St. Peter's had been a time travelling Michelangelo. I guess that would have Vatican approval.
