Cooter was the first to raise the warning, the new Dukes of Hazard is a steep departure from the original tv series. It seems old Cooter, Ben Jones, feels that the new film is a trashed up and sleazier version of the family favorite original.

That is lamentable but my problem lies, for now, solely with the casting. Johnny Knoxville, that oportunist cultural gutter dweller has the lead as Luke Duke. This guy, this lowest common denominator catering prankster whose career was made by inflicting the most gruesome and disgusting acts on himself and others, has no business in this film or any other for that matter. Bo Duke will be played by Sean William Scott, the actor blessed with three first names, who has the knack and a career of playing the stupid funny guy. Daisy will be played by congenital ditz, Jessica Simson.

Knoxville has made the leap from the lowest form of comedy (if it can even be called that) to the lowest form of acting (comedic remakes of cheesy tv shows). What a reward for swimming in sewage and hitting himself with a hammer.

The pop culture favorites from my youth are dying a hundred deaths.

So it's just Knoxville, Scott and Simpson being Knoxville, Scott and Simpson - under the aliases of Duke - and Simpson's too lazy to dye her hair brown or put on a brown wig, as the original Daisy Duke was a brunette and not a blonde (not to mention about 5 inches taller than Simpson). Just like 2004's Starsky & Hutch was simply an excuse for Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson to be Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson under the aliases of Starskey & Hutch.

What is entertainment coming to?

I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an obi-wan to go.

Hey great point! That's what entertainment has come to, actors playing themselves for the most part, or playing the characters that they play the best, i.e. Stiller a funny schmuck, Scott an innocent dufus, Knoxville a jackass, Wilson a naive do-gooder.

p.s.-Simpson has legs like sequoia tree stumps, Daisy had beautiful gams that went on forever.

although personally i have nothing against knoxville (i always condemned jackass untill i saw a marathon of it... that shit's hypnotic)
if anything i'm wondering why he didn't just do acting instead of subjecting himself to GTA style insane stunt bonus hunting.

i'm really over these remakes of old shows into films...

EVERYTHING HAS NOT BEEN DONE!!! and i'm sick of people saying it...

there is pleanty left to write about, film, and record, it's just that everyone is being a lazy scared of a dumb public fuckhead!!!

jessica simpson is hot but a complete moron, and the only film that people like her (i.e stunningly attractive but undeservingly famous) should do is the one like Paris Hilton did... (and no, not the recent one, the downloadable one).

Except with better lighting.

I concur, I want to see some originality, though I can't complain about the Dukes of Hazard being ruined because I never watched the original.

Jackass is one of my guilty pleasures, but mostly because the parties involved are so irritatingly dull that seeing them in pain brings a sort of sadistic glee into my life. However, this doesn't mean that I approve of Knoxville's post-Jackass success. Men In Black II, that dumb thing with the Rock, and now this....this thing. If Jessica Simpson can somehow inexplicably get a role in a huge film franchise, then the movie industry is truly doomed.

And the MPAA wonders why fewer people are paying to see movies these days?

Jessica Simpson is preferable to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, but that may not be saying much.
