Noah's Ark:
starting at Genesis 6:14 "Make your self an ark with ribs of cypress;cover it with reeds and coat it inside and out with pitch. This is to be its design: the length of the ark is to be three hundred cubits, its breadth fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits. You are to make a roof for the ark, giving it a fall of one cubit when complete; put a door in the side of the ark, and build tree decks, lower, middle, and upper."
"No precise modern equivalents can be given for the units of measurement, weight, and value used in the ancient world, which themselves varied at different times, in different places, and in different contexts of use."
Here is an approximation though:
A cubit (short) = 0.45 meters = 1.48 feet
A cubit (long) = 0.525 meters = 1.722 feet
I'm going to use the longer one for arguments sake. Therefore the ark was approximately:
516.6 feet long
86.1 feet wide
51.66 feet tall
There was three seperate decks, and a roof. Since ships aren't made like boxes, the width of different decks would be different. The ship was probably built with the help of slaves, and Noah probably had years in which to do so. The animals could have been coming to the ark nearly the entire time. Using this information, and my theory about the flood, it is very probable that this had occured.
And you thought fanboys were good.
"And the Evil that was vanquished shall rise anew. Wrapped in the guise of man shall he walk amongst the innocent and Terror shall consume they that dwell upon the Earth. The skies will rain fire. The seas shall become as blood. The righteous shall fall before the wicked! And all creation shall tremble before the burning standards of Hell!" - Mephisto

And God should totally have said to have Noah build two upper decks, just to confuse him.

I think NOah COULD have build the ark because it's really not a traditional boat, but a large floating thing. All it had to do was float not move.
Some times I think during Noahs time most creatures were really small. But books say that animals are getting smaller every year, back then every thing was huge.
IT does sound a little crazy. But if the flood was bullshit- then I think the bible would be worthless. IT keeps saying it's the word of God, why would that contain a fairy tale?

edit: Oooh, I just thought of a modern example or two. The Pope and Presedent (sadly) George (could be easily replaced by a monkey) W. Bush.

Why would every single creature on earth be smaller than today? And what books say that animals are getting smaller? (My cat would disagree with you. He's a beast.)

Yes they did. The Garden of Eden, Atlantis, Asgard, Shangri-La, and Heaven.
Ah, heck. I'm not just gonna keep hammering on about this. I don't believe there was ever a world-wide Flood, or that we survived as a species by building a boat. For the record, Jordan, a ship that could survive a storm that could add 2.6 billion cubic meters of water to the Earth in 40 days, would have to do a lot more than float. That kind or rain would sink an aircraft carrier.
Thanks for the deets on the scale, Z: I thought it was much bigger than that. Those details make it more likely that it could have been built (tho it would have been the largest ship ever built for several more centuries), more likely that it would sink, and a lot less likely that it could have contained even the larva of the several million species of insects, not to mention polar bears, pythons and kangaroos. (Hey; where did he keep the termites?)
I also don't believe in Troy, or Babel, or Camelot. The myths existed before the places were found to validate them.

2.6 billion cubic meters - is that a calcualted number on how much volume of rain would be needed to flood the earth?

You know how when we have a few centimeters of rain in a day everyone freaks and we issue small craft warnings? 5180m in 40 days is 130 cm every 24 hours over every square meter on the face of the entire planet. That wooud be pretty much the strongest, thickest storm ever recorded. I bet the sheer weight of the rainfall would be enough to kill all those small birds that Noah must have been keeping below decks. This kind of storm would make Katrina look like a breeze.

I guess if you're going to buy the story, you need to also include God's divine hand. Because another qeustion with no physical explanation is- where did all the water go too?
I have a book here that gives so explanations. If you want me to type it all out I will, but you better read it because it will be a lot of typing.

Yeah, it's called a roof. A roof that is slanted on each side. The water would runoff. Whereas on an aircraft carrier, which is generally flat. Would have a very big water problem. (This is actually a response to Civ.)

That's not so hard...
remember, all things swimming were pretty much sorted. (in fact for 40 days and night there they really had their pick of the litter).
Dinasaurs were expected to fend for themselves which is why only the alagator, the crocodile, and nessy survived.
Methuselah probably helped build the ark... he didn't make it to the flood as he died just before reaching his 970th birthday...
but Noah had three sons, and with the rest of the world teasing them as they worked i'm pretty sure it made them hammer and saw faster out of anger... so they probably got it built way ahead of shedule.
