Hmmmmmmmmmmm. It really sucks being in these forums without having seen the movie. I will HAVE to see it before I can decide if it was portrayed good enough. Padme is a lame character... my Nera is alot better. I love Nera. She is my own. I created Nera. I formed her from the feminine side of myself. In order to create a female character, when you are a male, you really have to contact that side, or as BinarySunset said, you won't tell the woman's story right. A woman's heart is as deep as an ocean... sometimes as calm as a stream on a restful spring day.. or as furious as a hurricane in the coasts of a city.

people die of grief all the time... but it usually takes a couple years...

there was no complication in the birth... for her to suddenly cark it during delivery, was lame. There was nothing mediaclly wrong with her for her to give up. she was not injured... ani choked her, but that's a different kind of injury all together.

she had nothing to lay down and not fight against...

she wasn't an elf from the silmarillion.... for god's sake...

it was not a tragedy...

she married a jerk who acted like a creppy stalker between bouts of violent psychosis and mass murder...
it's not exactly something that came as a suprise to her...

it was a long time comming...

nothing to loose the will to live with instant gratification over...

it is explained that she 'lost the will to live'.

I lost the will to live whilst watching this travesty but I didn't die biggrin.gif. My money is on ole Georgie changing the scene where Luke asks leia about her real mother. probably to something like "leia do you remember our real mother, you know the one that crapped out on us at birth"

So many new cops...

I dont see the problem with Leia remembering her adoptive mother as her real mother. Unless you want to hate these films that is, which surely couldnt be the case...

Nothing to do with the Force, its just that Bail didnt get the chance to tell her she was adopted before he got blown to bits.

I think the whole point of Padmes death was that Anakin actually caused what he was trying to prevent.

To clear up any confusion for anyone who hasn't seen the film, Padme does not die due to complications from childbirth nor "wills" herself to death using latent force powers. It appears that she dies from a broken heart - I'm not kidding.

Here's the story:

After Anakin force chokes Padme, he has his big sabre fight with Obi-Wan, etc. When that's over, Obi flies Padme to a ship/medical facility where Yoda and Bail Organa are, but she is not taken there because she goes into labor, no; she's taken there because Anakin nearly killed her earlier. She is then saved and brought back to health, but as the medical droid tells Obi and Yoda (paraphrased):

"We don't know what's wrong. Physically she's fine, but we're still losing her. It's as if she's lost the will to live. We have to act fast if we want to save the children."

Padme does not go into labor and give birth, the droids perform emergency surgery on her to save the unborn babies because she's dying; because she's lost the will to live. Then, immediately after giving birth to Leia (Luke came out first), Padme looks at Obi-Wan, who's beside her side, tells him that there's still good in Anakin and dies.

What I find conflicting is that if Lucas wants us to believe that Padme died of a broken heart because Anakin went evil, then why did he write it so that she tells Obi-Wan there's still good in Anakin? If she dies because Anakin goes evil, wouldn't the fact that she truly believes he still has some good in him keep her alive?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

I refuse to believe that in a civilization that has achieved space flight and can have robots build an animatronic body for a guy who's been burnt to a crisp and lost three limbs, a woman can die from grief.

Well I must say starwars is populated by Manic Depressives then cos I clearly remember Leia saying that her mum was "very sad" quite a nice nod towards her real mother being sad over what happened about anakin.

Actually I just figured it out. The reason Leia can talk about her real mother, damn it's so simply and obvious. Starwars 4,5,6 are set after 1,2,3 right, sooooooooo she must have seen 1,2,3 in the cinema biggrin.gif

The more I knows the less sense it makes. If that happened than why does Obi Wan argue with Luke when Luke says theres still good in Vader? And more over, Padme is a selfish, weak, wussy, dirtwhore. Just cuz her creepy psycho boyfriend chokes her and kills some people (as he tends to do) she gives up the will not only to preserve her own life, but those of her kids? They could have fucking died for all she cares!

Is this the "kind and sad" character we're supposed to sympathize with?

Jariten- Bull. That's apologist bull. Admit it you'll feel better. Which of these sounds more likely:

"Leia, do you remember your foster mother? I'm asking you about her even though she has nothing to do with anything."

or

"Leia, do you remember your real mother, who incidentally is also my mother and thus is a subject we would both be interested in."

It sounds as though the evisceration of Amidala's character is complete in Episode III. In Episode I she's reasonably interesting and good in a fight. In Episode II she starts to take second place to her creepy boyfriend. In Episode III, it seems like, she's nothing to do but to look like Leia and deliver badly written weepy lines.
