Kevin J. Anderson, ugh. Has anyone here read his DUNE prequels? Ghastly. They make Lucas's prequels look subtle and well-plotted by comparison.

The thing I didn't like abotu the Anderson books was that they seemed like comic book plots. That's all fine and dandy when there are cool pictures and cartoony babes doing fun things... take all that away and you're just left with some lousy dialogue and stupid plot ideas.

Yeah, Anderson wrote some DUNE prequels, at least four of them. Brian Herbert, Frank's son, is credited as a co-writer but I doubt whether his contribution amounted to more than, "Here's some napkin scribblings from my dad, turn them into a novel."

How anyone ends up commissioning Kevin's work is a mystery. Maybe it's something people do when they're drunk.

To quote the immortal Galaxy Quest, "It doesn't take a good actor to recognise a bad one." It's the same with writing. In fact the only ones who have the ultimate say to judge writers are his readers, not other writers. We are readers, we judge, and we say that Anderson et al. suck.

And GalaxyQuest is awesome. A great mock of Star Trek, but it keeps its heart in the right place.
