Some of us have already peeked into the OT. I brought it up extensively in a discussion about homosexuality. The chapter by Leviticus is kind enough to describe how to kill animals for god, how to stone people for god, and how you should cut out your neighbors eye if he cuts out yours.

I thought maybe old Levi was just a lone nut, but then I started readin up on the holy ark. Sweet zombie Jebus! That thing is fuckin evil! It caused a rash of tumors in two towns, killed at least a hundred Israelites (they were on the Ark's side) and it also killed some of Moses' relatives! Fuck man! You really have to read the stuff to believe it. I mean I know God was supposedly all about vengeance but the ark of the covenant supposedly just randomly zapped people to death.

Is anyone up for a good debate about the ark of the covenant or about the Old Testament in general?

Edit: Fixed pointlessly profane provacative title.

The Ark also killed a lot of Nazis in Raiders of the Lost Ark. So I guess it's a double-edged err... casket...

Don't you lot get sick of bashing Christians? I'm not too keen on them myself for the most part, but there's only so many times you can say GOD IS NOT REAL LOL FAGS or OMG THE BIBLE IS HYPOCRASY or CATHOLICS DO MEAN THINGS.

I mean, what's the point you're making here? Granted, the ark is psycho, like, wow. But what sort of 'debate' do you hope to get out of this?

And am I the only one bored with religious discussion?

He's not bashing Christians, he's making fun of the Old Testament. But yeah, this could go in another thread or something.

Personally, while I despise almost every word of most Christian doctrine, as long as people don't try to impress their views onto me or my legal system, I couldn't care less about it.

Slade- it's interesting to note that the scene in RotLA goes exactly by the bible, right down to the appearance of the ark and people dying for looking into it.

Rhubarb- I suppose the title was a bit nasty. I'm genuinely interested in finding out what worth people put in the old testament, but I'm more interested in the ark. That it caused two outbreaks of tumors suggests that it may have been radioactive in some way. It's also interesting to note that both the ark of the covenant and Noah's ark are described in greater detail than the relics we get from the New Testament, such as the shroud of Turin and the holy grail.

I actually enjoy religious debate, especially where you get a good excuse to actually look into the scripture and research things. I've read the Quran and the new testament and some of the old testament so this was kind of a chance to try to get into some real decent debate, and I was hoping maybe someone could find something from the old testament that wasnt all about brimstone and death.

such as the shroud of Turin and the holy grail.

Those are just speculations. I'm sure the holy grail never existed and the shroud is also in the grey area. Neither are in the bible.

The old testament was written in harsh times. It's a good source for historians, Christians also find meaning in it. I can't recall and don't want to bother type it all out, but it's suppose to show people how impossible it is to have a relationship with God with out Jesus.

The bible called the people in the OT 'wicked' and I guess God delt with them accordingly in very harsh ways. Human sacrifces, murder galore, stuff like that was common.

JM, You should read 2 Kings 2:23-24. Bears, man. It's nuts.

Jordan - That's an interesting idea. I can see that. God was all about the wrath and the death of non-believers. I guess after he walked among us for 30 years or so he grew up, eh?

When I read the OT, it just sounded like lots of mythology that some people don't accept as mythology.

If a girl decides that you're her mate she'll press her lips to yours to get her scent on you and mark you as her property so that other girls will stay away. Also, they have fangs.

Hey, that goes in another thread, methinks!

But it's true, and so very hard to resist. Good thing I go to a tech college and am a loser at the moment, so I don't have that problem.

Oh, I thought it was an order to talk about it in this topic.
