Star Wars has brainwashed a great many, with its poilitcal vagueness and its mythological nonsense, as well as its oversimplistic pseudoreligiosity. The only people I've noticed who remain clear headed about Star Wars are the younger ones who didn't see it in the theater when it first came out, and didn't obsess over it to a great degree in their childhoods, as many of us old folks did. Good for them, on the other hand, many younger filmgoers have fallen into the trap of forced nostalgia (just like that 60s crap that so many drug enthusiasts like to push on people these days)...Lining up for movies these days is no longer what it once was...anyway...those old fans who cling to their Obiwan Kenobi truisms like Bible Thumpers and the elitist gamers who gush about the technical stats of hyperdrives and Boba Fett weapons as well as the fantasy-freaks who drool on about Joseph Campbell and how George Lucas is like a prophetic mystic who somehow has gained gnosis and has imparted this divine knowledge to the masses: isn't it about time you all realized how you have been tricked?
You can enjoy whatever films you want, but this obsessed defending of the almighty Baron Papanoida and his holy writ is nothing less than cultish behavior.
Who am I referring to on these boards? The usual crowd, the ones who even today attempt to criticize Lucas for bad filmmaking and curse him for ruining their mystical fantasies which he originally gave them...yeah...I do mean you hofmarn, barend, jariten, jordan, and the rest...you have dissed your Sci-Fi Pope, but truly you are still the faithful, albeit schismatic, and you still hold in adoration, your Jedi Saints and the mystical foundations of which they so inspired you. You complain about the pseudoscience revisions of midichlorians and nitpick the new powers of the Force...but ultimately, its not about bad filmmaking, or true resentment for being hustled...its fundamentalism pure and simple.
That's right, you are FUNDAMENTALIST STAR WARS fans...you are still believers, and you know it. You hate the idea that Lucas could have imparted certain ugly fascistic idealogies in his "original" scriptures...and you can't see the truth contained in the New Star Wars Testament...so you blame these heresies on things like 'bad direction' and 'he sold out.' Perhaps it was there all along. Interesting to note that while you fundamentalists criticize your Pope and prophet, for his "new" sermons, you defend him against not merely claims of fascism, but also claims of plagiarism. I find this interesting.
Ladies, and Gentlemen, I find it fascinating to see just where your "criticism" is coming from, and how you still hold on to your cherished traditionalist doctrines and why you truly hate the Prequel Trilogy. Its not about how star wars really sucks at all, its about how your mystical obsessions were "contaminated" rendered "impure" by these new heretical ideas of the VERY creator of the shit you so reverently worshipped in the first place. The Force, Jedihood, Yoda's truisms, leaving home to find your way in the cosmos and fighting an evil empire, heroic and "mythological" underpinnings...for the others, the fascist uniforms and spaceships and guns of course...but neertheless this has all come apart for you I can tell, and not merely because you feel you have discovered "flaws" in your childhood cult, but because you fight against aparent heresies which seem to be usurping it...even if it is from the Lord baron himself...
Motivations ladies and gentlemen, tell more about a person than the drool flailing from his lips, or even the crowbar in his hands.
