Were we arguing? I thought it was merelt debating if Depp, Gossaw or Lucas is more of a deity. That, and kickass pictures starring The Pope.

On a side note, wouldn't it be cool to be a Pope? Not the present one, he's suffering a bit lately, but a Pope? Think about it.

Well, if any of you worshiped Eris, Goddess of chaos and confusion, you could be your very own Pope. We even get cards!

Also: That other God? Topic Remember that one?

Anyhow: I'm an existentialist, mostly, but I have due to my agnositicism and attempts to figure out what's going on, or some sort of facimily, taken on Buddhist tendencies. Hell seems like an absurd concept no matter how you look at it. The embodiment of kindness and love allows a place to exist where souls are tortured for all eternity? An omnipresent God has a place where one is absent from him? I'm also on the "Keep trying until you get it right" reincarnation thing.

I feel religion is a load of bunk designed to keep the masses happy, but it got out of control because people realized how easy it is to manipulate the unquestioning, if it wasn't sent up for that reason to begin with...

In regards to Lecter, I'm not going to debate something that is by nature impossible to prove/disprove, so that is all about that.

King Kong died for our sins, and I'd rather be whistling in the dark.

And the Temple of Doom should not exist.

Is this debate still about gods? If it is, I would like to make the following statement:

There is only one thing that we owe our existence to, the Sun.

Dr. Lecter, if you respect truth, find a new sig.

Most Nazis were... I'll use the word 'homo' since I'm new here, and don't know how into it people are. They were NOTORIOUSLY so, including the fact that many Nazi meetings degraded into more or less orgies. So they were pretty screwed anyway.

Furthermore, the Bible doesn't say that, unless you read it as a one-track mind Protestant pulpit-pounder.

On the subject of God, he's a handy explanation for why everything exists in perfect balance. And when I say balance, I suggest you study the physics of our atmosphere. The exact details of why it neither crushes us nor floats away are disturbing, especially if you view it as a random result of millions of years.

Any chance of some elaboration?

To be serious and tell the truth, yes I am Catholic. Most of the Amish wouldn't know what either neo or zen was, and the less than 5% who did, would object violently.

Ah. The specific attack on Protestantism gave it away. And that was how it was in the middle ages - Darth Pope.

Barend: That is exactly the reason why it is my new wallpaper smile.gif.

Cyzyk (or however you spell that name): don't take offence at Dr. Lecter too much, him and Hannibal are our houce conspiracy theorist and needless to say conspirasy theorist aren't big fans of God.

Also, good on you for finding a pretty valid point for God, most people who defend him (that i've seen) just point at a bible and shout "This is all the proof you need, now lemmie qoute Tommy 42:6*9".

Everyone else: Be nice, you all know as well as I do that a one sided debate is as fun as listening to one of Randy Newman's albums. We need another veiw to keep the fun up.

I used to be Catholic.

Would you believe that it only took two years in a private Catholic school to make me renounce my faith? My parents still made me get confirmed when I was sixteen, though, mainly just to make my dad happy (he was a Baptist convert, so he takes it all pretty seriously). I remember not long after that, I was trying to explain to one particularly obnoxious girl who had been confirmed with me that I was not Catholic anymore and hadn't been since I was barely even twelve, and that whole fucking ritual meant absolutely nothing at all. She kept coming back and saying that I was wrong, I am a Catholic, and because I let some priest rub foul-smelling oil on my forehead (I was almost sick from the stench, and the bastard put a stain on the only dress shirt I ever liked, too...) nothing I could ever say or do would change it - basically, that I'm stuck for life.

Funny how I think the whole thing is utter bullshit, but that thought can still scare the shit out of me. The thought of any kind of connection like that just makes me feel...dirty.

Behold the power of the Catholic church... mellow.gif

EDIT/ADDITIONAL: I like God. I just don't like most of his followers. They frighten me. And I don't mean frighten as in "they freak me out," I mean there's something there that chills me to the core. There are just no words for the feeling I get from some of those people.

And I don't like it.

Catholics and Protestants don't get along any more now than they did in the Thirty Years War. Well, maybe they do. The whole wars and auto-da-fe thing is kind of past. But Protestants continue to propagate wild lies about the Catholics, (I've heard some really good ones too, if you like a conspiracy) and the Catholics continue to view Protestants as overly-emotional Bible-cutters, trimming out what they don't like.

Would Darth Pope be the Pope in Avignon? (Or the Babylonian captivity, as some prefer.) Or during the Spanish Inquisition, which ran in straight defiance of the Pope's wishes? I wouldn't go quite so far as 'Darth Pope in the Middle Ages'. It's still a funny picture though.
