Newborn tossed out of car window
Friday, February 11, 2005

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Florida (AP) -- A newborn is in serious condition after it was tossed out a car window onto the grass beside a busy street Thursday afternoon, authorities said. The car sped off.

Investigators were seeking the parents of the boy, whose umbilical cord was still attached when he was found by a woman passer-by. Doctors believe the infant was less than an hour old at the time.

Broward County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Leljedal said the woman brought the infant to the sheriff's office. The baby was taken to Broward General Medical Center, which upgraded his condition from critical to serious Thursday night.

It was unclear what injuries the eight-pound, two-ounce child suffered.

The woman who rescued the baby -- who was inside a small plastic bag -- said she saw a man and woman arguing inside the vehicle.

The baby was thrown from the passenger side, landing three or four feet away in the grass.

No information was released on the baby's identity.

North Lauderdale is about 13 miles northwest of Fort Lauderdale.

well that's just fucked... and assuming it's difficult to drive an hour after giving birth i can only assume the mother was the one in the passenger seat (not important, just horrible).

i think this is one case of unwanted pregnancy were the parents should have been terminated.

Hey, if the baby couldn't survive on its own, it doesn't qualify as human, okay?

Baby's are just parasites, and should not legally qualify as human beings until, say, seven years old.

Just kill the parents. Two bullets to the head and one in the sterum. Simple.

Oh my god...

Give me a minute for this to sink in...

(*deep breath...TWITCH TWITCH*)

They threw their newborn child...out of a car window?! What the hell kind of people do that?! They stuck it in a plastic bag and threw it out like garbage! Those people don't deserve to live! yell.gif

If the baby survives, I wonder what will happen to it. It's bound to be severely brain damaged because of this...

It might not have been their child. Do they even let women leave the hospital that soon after birth?

Eww... I said afterbirth.

I would guess that this was a child NOT born in a hospital. As far as I can tell from news reports, most cases where parents have abandonded a baby to die -- leaving in in the trash, in a dumpster, out a car window, it's after the woman has hidden the pregnancy or refused to accept that it happened. Remember the couple who threw their child away at the prom? (I think it was at the prom, prom was involved somehow). Parents who are going to abandon their baby to die are not the type of parents who go to the hospital when they have labour pains.

Jen's right. If you have your baby in a hospital, the mother is supposed to stay for 24-48 hours, I think. It might depend on what state you live in. Also, if you take a baby you don't want to the hospital, they are supposed to take care of it (in Mass anyway. It's called "baby safe haven" and they rap about it on TV.)

Does it strike anyone as odd that the person who found the baby is described as a "woman passer-by"? Why not just "woman" or "passer-by"? Not important, just interesting.

I guess it's more important now.

As for the first two stories....This woman is thirty-eight years old and she didn't want to keep her kid so she made up some story to the police?

That shows all the maturity and responsibility of about a five-year-old.

And as for this last story....Haven't people heard of adoption agencies?
Head Gunner for the Royal Sloop Crimson Steel, Queen of the Dead, Instigator of Chaos and Confusion, Knight of the Grand Recursive Order of the Lambda Calculus, and also The Non.

Remember Emu's face, people; one day it's going to be on the news alongside a headline about blowing some landmark to smithereens, and then we can all sigh and say, "She was such a normal person".....
....We'd be lying though.

Adoption Agency Person: "Well, I'll be honest with you, we don't make many placements to single parents in your tax bracket."
Prospective Mother: "Oh, that's all right, my neighbor's pregnant so I can always just kill her and steal the baby."
AAP: "Never mind... We just got in a new shipment! You're HIRED! As a mom, that is! Here is your baby!"
PM: "Hot dog!" (kills adoption agent)
