QUOTE (DBrennan3333 @ Feb 11 2005, 01:49 AM)
Hey, if the baby couldn't survive on its own, it doesn't qualify as human, okay?

Baby's are just parasites, and should not legally qualify as human beings until, say, seven years old.

DBrennan, forgive me if I'm misunderstanding you, or if your post is in a Swiftian satire vein, but if it isn't, I find that statement pretty disturbing.

Speaking personally, I was born several months premature, and was not expected to live. If I did survive, I was considered likely to have severe, permanent medical problems. I lived through a massive brain hemorrage and underdeveloped kidneys that didn't work for a while. Today, by the grace of God, I'm a whole, healthy adult; free from severe brain damage, which wasn't what the doctors expected.

So was I less of a person then than I am now? Try saying that babies are 'parasites' to a mother who's just lost her unborn child through a miscarriage. Try saying that to a woman who's had a stillbirth or a preemie, or to parents' whose less-than-7-year-old child is murdered.

I'm just sayin', is all. Now, if you were being sarcastic or Swiftian or tongue-in-cheek... well, then that's somewhat different. But you might want to clarify what you meant, there.

Don't worry Roman, I'm fairly sure it was in jest. Hell, I had three bouts of open heart surgery before I was one year old. It's amazing that I'm here and healty as well.

I have a scar on my stomach from having my appendix taken out when I was ten, but it's never gotten any smaller. It's still about three inches long and puts a funny-looking dent in my abdomen. I'm almost riddled with tiny little marks and scars, most of them completely unnoticeable, but they're still there.

I scar very easily.
