I suppose we should be celebrating now, but I can't help feel sad. I care more about the journey than the destination, it would appear.

QUOTE (Laughlyn @ Apr 22 2005, 12:05 AM)
The rather drunken young lady reading over my shoulder finds the comments amusing, although somewhat schoolboyish.

Well, I'm glad she thinks I'm funny, but schoolboyish? Me? I can't help but think she has me confused with Dennis the Menace (That would be the english one, not the american). However, if she's a paedophile, then i'm fucking LAID man!

Oh and Laughlyn, although I have a grudging respect for the atrocity you pulled off, I would like to state the following:

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN

I do not like being head-fucked. You may wish to remember this simple fact.
It could save your life one day.

But if we stop now and say we win, then those extra steps wont come into play.

Dumb luck prevails again.

Yes but they know that we're going to come to that decision, so they let us think that we've outsmarted the feminie logic, whilst they've won yet again. Face facts gentlemen, the best you can get out of an arguement with a woman is an honorable draw.

VD: You need to relax more dude, chill, we ain't starting a flame war here. Vic's comments were reflected at the thread on the whole, not just you. You can't tell me that arguing who's better out of boys and girls isn't somewhat childish.

You somehow seem to have come to the conclusion that I am a smouldering cesspit of suppressed rage. I was, in fact, joking. I LIKE being thought of as a schoolboy. Makes me feel special.

(By the way, was this what you thought I meant by the whole "head-fuck" thing? I was actually talking about the "pregnant woman!" fiasco a few pages back. And no, this threat wasn't serious either.)

In other news:

We simply MUST get back on topic.

The proper term for Discordians is "mind-fuck", and it's a crucial part to worshiping Eris. But this is not a theology thread.

Women don't even bother pretending to seduce me so I get out of that crap by default! I feel bad for all of you poor saps that actually have attention paid to you by women. Must be total hell, I'm sure. And when I'm feeling like an ass I like to say that everyone should be able to hit everyone else without concern for gender on the basis of promoting equal treatment of the sexes in society.

Boys rule and girls drool.

VD: the first sentance was sarcasitic by the way. but I'm glad you're happy.

Headfuck must just be the pictish version, sadly I'm not sure that Eris has too many followers up here in the cultural wilderness.

Back to the girl bashing. How come women can ask questions that have no correct answer and get away with it? I.E.

'Are you going out with you're friends tonight?'

There is no way to answer that one without pissing her off.

Barend: Not to harp on the 2 month ring-thing, but in my limited understanding of it, the reasons for an engagement ring go way back, back even perhaps to the time when your branding idea wasn't too far out of whack. A ring was solid evidence that the man in question had the means to support the wife he was taking, and it also acted as a sort of marker -- i.e., she's wearing my ring and she is part of my household and under my protection. Do I think that most women and most men have this antecedent in mind when they purchase a ring? No. I think many women and certainly men would have a problem reconciling the idea of their engagement ring representing a sort of combination bride price/possesion marker, but there you go. An engagement ring can be viewed in another light as merely a lovely present, a sign of commitment, all of those other things. I don't minimize that aspect! I'm just saying it represents what was a significant financial transaction, and an important cultural one as well ...

Something else women say:

You realise your girlfriend is acting in a very icy manner towards you.
You ask if she all is right only for her to snap "I'm fine!"
You realise you must have done something to piss her off.
You ask her why she is mad at you.
She replies (sing it with me now)

"If you don't know what you've done, then there's no point in me telling you"

The fuck?

That sounds like something James T. Kirk would tell a computer to get it to explode! Surely if I DID know what I atrocity I commited, there would be no point in telling me.

The 2 month salary thing (or however many months it is) was made up by Debeers who has a monopoly on the world's diamond market.

VD, In defense of that particular stereotype of the way men and women argue:

Those women are assholes. They are playing a manipulative game for attention. There are men who do things just like it, and yes, men can be physically abusive, so both genders have their own forms of esteem-crushing torture. The secret, for both genders (you shouldn't need to write this down) is NOT to date assholes.

I have had several relationships of differnt lengths and some of them were wonderful and others not so much. No one ever said that to me, but if they had it would have been the moment that triggered the end.

Actually, now that I get going, I did have one girl who said something stupid along the lines that she considered it slightly insulting that I trusted her not to cheat on me, that I never flipped out like some guys she had known if she had male friends, like it meant that was too relaxed in the relationship. I recognize a dumb jealousy trap when I see one, and that was the moment where I finally accepted she wasn't smart enough for me.

Ah, life. rolleyes.gif

Ayup. Too bad the commercials don't come out and say "Our shadowy Afrikaans conglomerate has decreed that we deserve one-sixth of your annual income".

Oh by the way, Jen, when I asked where all the chicks went, I forgot you were still here. I hope you do not interpret this as an attack on your basic femininity.

If I were in a relationship, I wouldn't tolerate all of that manipulative shit for very long.

Doesn't the wife buy a ring for her husband as well? or does the husband usually buy both rings? (I dunno)

I would never let anyone spend two months' salary on a ring anyway, I've lost way too many rings for that to be a good idea....
