Female soldier demoted over mud wrestling bout
Associated Press
February 7, 2005

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Military officials have demoted a female member of a National Guard military police unit for indecent exposure after a mud-wrestling party at the Camp Bucca detention center in Iraq.

Lt. Col. Barry Johnson, spokesman for detainee operations at the U.S. Army-run camp, did not release the name of the soldier, who lifted her shirt and showed her chest in photographs taken at the party.

The New York Daily News identified her as Deanna Allen, 19, and Allen's mother, Ladyna Waldrop of Black Mountain, confirmed the identification.

Several photographs of the party printed in the Daily News showed women wrestling in bras and panties in front of a crowd of male soldiers.

After an inquiry, Allen was demoted from specialist to private first class, received a pay cut and was placed on restriction. She is still a guard at the camp, the newspaper said.

Waldrop said her daughter is devastated by the events.

``It was just a thing where she was coerced by a bunch of people, and with all the excitement, she lost her sanity for a moment and that's all it took,'' she said.

``It seems like they're just singling her out,'' Waldrop said. ``She's the one getting all the publicity and punishment, and that's not right.''

The party occurred Oct. 30, as the 160th Military Police Battalion, an Army Reserve Unit from Tallahassee, Fla., prepared to turn over its duties to the Asheville-based 105th Military Police Battalion, Johnson said.

In the course of the transfer of duties, ``some individuals in their exuberance decided to put together a mud-wrestling thing,'' Johnson said Sunday.

Photos of the party were found after the 160th had left Iraq, Johnson said, adding that he understood a soldier had turned over the photos to commanders.

Johnson said it appeared the party was ``primarily put on by troops of the 160th,'' and results of the inquiry were sent to the unit's commander. It wasn't immediately clear if any members of the 160th had been disciplined.

Four or five other members of the 105th who were spectators at the party received counseling, Johnson said.

Johnson said the party was not held within sight of detainees. A scandal involving the separate Abu Ghraib prison erupted last spring when photographs were made public showing soldiers taunting naked Iraqi prisoners.

I place the blame entirely on tight pants.

I don't think women flashing people during mud-wrestling partys is deserving of mentioning in the same article as a grotesque violation of basic human rights.

Maybe it's just because I'm rather laid back, but these people seem rather uptight. My attitude would be more "so what?"

Well, we all know that boobs are evil. South Park proved it. Boobs, once they fill in, begin to plot and scheme, eventually destoying the mind of their host and taking over the body. The army did the right thing by punishing this woman. Her blatent flashing was endangering the minds and souls of the other troops present.

I hope that Miss Allen has learned a valuable lession: Boobs don't pay.
I finally got a sig!

Not to sound too much like Hannibal, but I think they're covering up a far bigger issue (what the flying frog-faced fuck are they still doing in Iraq in the first place) with a ridiculously more petty isue (omfg shee got hre b00bees owt!!!!!111 lmao). The fundamental hidden by the superficial.

There's probably a joke to be made here, but I certainly can't be arsed to make it...

it seems that female soldiers are powerless against peer presure, when it comes to taking responsibility for posing for photos.

see this why women were not alowed in the army in the old days tongue.gif

I seem to recall a discussion about the moral superiority of our troops?

You see, here in this country, we don't make women wear headscarves and we don't slap them for not wearing them...BUT WE DO LIKE TO HUMILIATE THEM, GET THEM DRUNK, MAKE THEM MUDWRESTLE, RAPE THEM OR FORCE THEM TO HAVE LESBIAN SEX FOR OUR PRIVATE VIDEO TAPES...

YOU KNOW THATS FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY.

AMERICAN SOLDIERS ARE THE FINEST MORAL CRUSADERS IN THE UNIVERSE....

THIS IS LIVING PROOF DON"T YOU THINK?

(Somewhere some afghani is saying, "I enjoy shooting Americans, any degenerate loser who disrespects his women like this deserves to be killed.")

Jordan: but this is a random incidant not indicative....

BLABALBALAHALBLABALBABAHAHABALABAH!BULLSHIT.

This shit happens on college campuses every weekend.

The degradation and humiliation of women in this country probably makes Afghanistan look like heaven on earth.

You should know, you have the internet.

Spare me the moral superiority shit, and the idea that soldiers have a right.

Yes, this probably was a few, just as in Iraq or Afghanistan, there ARE a few men who slap their wives.

At least they don't coerce them to shove beer bottles up their ass after making them have lesbian sex on camera during a mud wrestling contest.

good points... but i seriously doubt anyone was forced to do anything.

it sounds like a bunch of soldiers having fun. in the same way male soldiers would have wrestling, boxing, etc. but some drunk male soldier probably suggested a mud wrestle between famale troops, who, also drunk by that stage thought it would be fun...

i know a few girls who flash when a little tipsy, or snoged another girl cause someone (probaly me) said it would be fun...

what i'm sick of is the suggestion that people are being forced to do anything...

i think, in more ways than one, that US soldiers start taking responsibility for their actions.

"i think, in more ways than one, that US soldiers start taking responsibility for their actions."

What, are you crazy? Responsibilty? these men are trained to KILL for their country, they shouldn't have to be responsible for anything! If these guys want to rape, torture, scrape gold off the walls of Iraqi museums, steal, shove lightsticks up people's asses, or force POWs to have sex on camera, they're just "blowing off steam."

Actually, if they enjoy killing so much, why do they have to blow off steam?

Regardless, you are right. The responsibilty is clear. Every scumbag soldier who kills an unarmed man for pretending he's dead, rapes an Iraqi, or behaves like a nazi or worse is only bringing dishonor to his fellow troops. These assholes should get more than 6 months for this shit, as is being reported, and IT SHOULD BE PLASTERED ON THE NEWS FOR ALL TO SEE< EVEN THE ENEMY. They should realize that IT IS THEY who are making it harder for their own men by behaving like barbarians, not the press. THEY ARE THE ONES who performed the actions, not the press. The govenment needs to stop this bullshit immediately. If they can order men to die and kill, you think they could order them to stop behaving like orgiastic head-hunting cannibals on the loose. IT DOESNT HELP THEM TO BEHAVE THIS WAY. IT FUELS THE ENEMY'S RATIONALIZATION TO FIGHT AND KILL EVEN MORE. If we are as morally superior as we say, shouldn't we act it?

Hm, hm.
In view with our recent discussion about "it's fun to shoot some people" I think this comes as a proof that the world's gone crazy.
Correction - America gone crazy.

Apparently shooting people = fun - having a peep at a woman's chest = horrible evil - according to US military officials. I'd say these guys have serious problem with themself. What happened to "make love not war?"

A bunch of people had fun in a detention centre in Iraq. This fun - strangely enough - did not involve anyone getting hurt, humilitated or harmed in any way. IF they even "coerced" her to wrestle in mud, so what? Wrestling is hardly something indecent - in this case, they actually wrestled in bras and panties. So what is the problem - that they wrestled, or that the girl showed the "chest" after the event?
Well, I am a girl - I would probaly agree to wrestle in mud. ( wink.gif this wink is especially for Barend) But if anyone would have asked me to "bare my chest" I would just tell them to feck off, peer pressure or not. But soem girls would probably do it, and agains, so what!!!! Sorry, but flashing your breast is hardly a

"behaving like orgiastic head-hunting cannibals on the loose"

I suppose they are just trying to distract people from the real problem of abuse of prisoners - on in fact fromt he real problem of being there. Typical.

Hannibal does make a very good point. While Americans claim that Muslims dehumanize women by asking them to hide their forms and not let men see them, I think this policy is just as bad as the American corporate policy of "women are pieces of meat for men to salivate over"

Personally I prefer a happy medium wherein women are neither forced to mud wrestle nor asked to wear veils. I suppose Europe is the place I want to be.

Okay, let me get this straight, Army guys and gals are having fun, 2 girls mud wrestle, and the some idiot with a digital camera takes pictures.

(to second J m HofMarN's point, Why do they even have cameras?)

This qualified as news? What in the world is all the fuss about? I Mr high-up-General-dude not getting any from mrs high-up-General-dude? We have people being blow up left right and center and the only thing they're concerned about is muddy partial nudity? The moral high ground is slipping into the abyss of insanity as we speak.

There is something seriously wrong with american society when people who see breasts have to go to counciling.....

Nope,

Give it 5 years and the EU will probably pass a law forbidding you to do either....

We have dirt, but lack the rain to make mud, sorry sad.gif

I have to agree with Chylds point. The entire thing is a misdirection, to hide their actual crimes in plain sight.

As for the breasts, I hear that Bush is trying to up the fine for doing something 'morally wrong' on American TV to $500,000, in a direct reference to Ms Jackson's performance last year.
