I'm not sure what regard the minions of the Elf hold Slipknot under, whether we all accept it, or whether it's on the same hatelist as limpbizkit. I'll hope its the former for now.

So, just bought the third album. Suprisingly refreshing, there's acoustic guitars, and more of Corey properly singing. Looks like the side projects have been rubbing off then.

Anyone else got anything else to say on the matter?

consider your ass flammed...

and check out a band called ACID BATH.
Slipknot tried to rip them off, but failed miserably.

and by the same token, if anyone likes System of a Down, throw it out and get the first few Thought Industry albums.

I've been downloading a lot of their songs recently, I've almost got every song off Iowa. They're a lot better than I thought.

Ugh...I recently said this on Ogrish's forums, and I will repeat it here:

(Quoted Directly)
"End of the day: it's just music. Like it or leave it, and move on. No one's forcing people to listen to Slipknot (I hope), so who cares? There are a lot of people (not just angsty teenagers, either) who like them, and a lot who don't. Just like any other band out there.
And the whole "real metal" thing is tired, and pointless. It's gotten to the point that it's worse than the "real punk" thing, which is just as inane.
And also, while I'm no fan myself, I'd like to hear the people who do nothing but shit on Slipknot do any better."

Just throwing that up there now before all the arguing nonsense starts up, which it likely will. Slipknot fans are militant, and Slipknot haters are even worse.

i dont think you've even heard SlipKnoT, or not enough of it anyway, they are quite heavy indeed, all my mates think so, and we all listen to pretty heavy stuff such as Opeth, Vader, In Flames, Strapping Young Lad, Children of Bodom and so on.

And i dont know who the hell these "Acid Bath" guys are but they must be notoriously heavy to make you think that of SlipKnoT, presuming youve actually heard afew of their songs.

1.) I like Slipknot.

2.) I realise that, despite the moronic mindset it suggests, they rose in part thanks to the whole anonymity thing.

3.) I am man enough to like them and recognise that there are people who don't. Just as I hope the vice versa applies.

4.) What is metal and what isn't is, as Hecc-man says, nothing more than a pissing contest. I listen to whatever the hell I like (which, I must admit, straddles several genres, a number of which don't like each other), and bugger your pidgeon holes.

5.) If we're going to try the flinging of the mud, Acid Bath are the proverbical tonne of bricks, and suggesting Heccubus would insult metal is like suggesting the Sun is pink.

6.) Arch Enemy, laddie, Arch Enemy.

I have no idea what you are saying there... (not being sarcastic, it's just that phrase could really be taken either way).

Well yes it just music, but if we can complain about Star Wars then this is cricket too.

My problem isn't that people listen to slipknot, i just don't like the way they are/were marketed as the hardest thing going around... and to be honest they are no where near... I don't think they are a terrible band. just no where near the people they are trying to be and taking fame from.

in an article in rolling stone magazine they actually list ACID BATH’s 'when the kite string pops' as their prime influence. But the Pepsi gods picked the radio friendly band to put on the air to keep the kids thinking they were rebelling as hard as they could. This is not the only case... there are many bands who are famous for being the radio friendly version of a better band.

Korn's 'life is peachy' (oct.15 1996) sounded and had art work suspiciously similar to Skrew's 'Shadow of doubt' (apr.9 1996)... which one have you heard?

System of a Down's self titled album (June 30, 1998) sounded almost exactly the same as (but not quite as good as) Thought Industry's 'Mods Carve the Pig: Assassins, Toads and God's Flesh' (October 12, 1993). But which one are you all familiar with...?

The list does quite literally go on…

And while superior bands are going unnoticed, mainstream media is making sure you get only the watered down versions. I have nothing personally against their listeners or the bands themselves (for most occasions). But it is an atrocity that companies are trying to keep us in the 1950s… and when someone tries to show you something better you attack them…

As for...
” I'd like to hear the people who do nothing but shit on Slipknot do any better.”

I’ll have some mp3s up soon.  smile.gif

As for the "real punk" thing...

fine. Avril Levigne is punk then. tongue.gif
