To answer your question: There is absolutely 0% chance that there will be an officially authorized Lucasfilm OOT DVD release.

I bought DVD laserdisc rips of the OT off ebay. The picture quality and sound were absolutely kick-ass...until the discs stopped playing. Out of nowhere, they developed playback issues on the third viewing, and now I feel absolutely cheated out of seventy bucks.

As a result, my Holy Grail of Star Wars merchandise is my widescreen, THX OT set on VHS. The problem is, I'm afraid to watch them, as they could get mangled in my VCR at any time despite the care I've taken in preserving them throughout the years. That leaves the recent DVD release, which pisses me off to no end, as I feel the latest incarnation (probably not the last!) is thoroughly unwatchable.

Fuck you, Mr. Lucas. You may not have raped my childhood, but you certainly molested it.

I had the complete OT on VHS. Two of them (ESB and ROTJ) were of the 'last time release of the original trilogy' and the other was a (somewhat decent quality) pirated VHS.

Now I've lost the original movie somewhere. I don't know where it's gone, but I think it was lost when I last moved... along with a few other movies.

Anyway, one I'm done watching the whole Saga after ROTS comes out, I won't be needing them anymore. Even though I intend to shelf them perminantly, I guess I COULD be willing to give away the originals to a few of you people... if you're interested. smile.gif

I'm buying up as many of the VHS as I can get my hands on before I found someone with a laserdisc-to-DVD version. I just hope it doesn't do what yours did, ekm. Why the heck would it do that?

ekm: sounds like the DVD player is the trouble maker.

secondly, to maintain VHS cassettes properly, you should FF and RW them in the VCR at least once every 10 months to prevent warping.

and burn them to DVD.

I'm not sure it's the DVD player. I tried it on two different systems, and the result is the same, and in the same spots on the discs.

Thanks for the advice about maintaining my VHS copies. I'll get on it right away! smile.gif
