Meter maid rage: Hummer-driving halfwit scalds her with Starbucks
By Michele McPhee
Friday, January 21, 2005

A hulking Boston bodyguard was arrested yesterday, accused of hurling a scalding Starbucks coffee at a meter maid who slapped a ticket on his illegally parked Hummer in the Back Bay.

The alleged attack unfolded about 8:30 a.m. when Christi Noviello, 44, was walking her Berkeley and Boylston streets beat and saw the black Hummer parked in a loading zone with a woman in the passenger seat.

``I am a nice meter maid,'' Noviello told the Herald yesterday in an exclusive interview. ``As a courtesy, I gave the lady a chance to move, but she pointed at the Starbucks and refused.''

Noviello wrote a $55 ticket, and slid it under the Hummer's windshield wiper - apparently enraging its driver, Francois Youhanna.

``He started yelling, `I don't accept this ticket!' He had a Venti-sized cup of black coffee in his hand, and he flung it right in my face,'' said Noviello, just hours after she was treated for first- and second-degree burns on her face and upper torso at New England Medical Center.

``I went down, I was panicking. It hurt so bad, I thought my face was falling off,'' she said. ``It was in my eyes, I was screaming.''

Starbucks employees rushed out of the store with wet cloths to soothe the burns, as cops arrested Youhanna for assault and battery with a deadly weapon, the hot coffee, which is a felony.

Youhanna insistedhe spilled the coffee on Noviello by mistake after slipping on some ice and falling, a story his female companion echoed. But witnesses said Youhanna - who is 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds - charged at the meter maid and was very close to her face when the coffee was thrown.

He told cops he owned Gavilier Security Patrol, a bodyguard service that lists his West Roxbury home as the company's address. When a relative was reached at Youhanna's home, the man hung up when asked to comment on the incident.

Youhanna, a native of Lebanon, pleaded not guilty yesterday in Boston Municipal Court and was released on personal recognizance on condition he stay out of trouble and away from the meter maid. A pretrial conference date was set for Feb. 23.

Last year, 16 meter maids were physically assaulted and another 48 were threatened or harassed, said Tom Tinlin, deputy commissioner of the Boston Transportation Department.

``It's appalling. This behavior should not be tolerated in a civilized world,'' Tinlin said yesterday. ``Christi is one of the nicest people I know. For her to be subjected to such behavior while performing your job is a disgrace.''

To me there is nothing more indicative of the times than this tory. An obnoxious jerk holding a Starbucks coffee (the official symbol of the obnoxious jerk) and parking their oversized SUV in the worst parking city in the world, Boston. A Volkswagen Jetta takes up most of the average Boston road.

It wasn't mentioned in the story but I'm sure the person was chatting idly with someone on his cell phone while he assaulted the meter maid.

now... i'm a nice guy. i have a very calm nature...

but if you splash hot starbucks coffe in my face while i'm carrying a gun,
expect a bullet in each eye, nostril and ears!!!

honestly....

what a savagely uncivilised thing to do...
fucking caveman...

go back to 2 million BC where you belong... psycho.

EDIT:

no, really...

i just saw a really brutal fight the other day from a friends balcony, two of my friends just got shot in a drive by, and a friend of mine was just subjected to a rather unprovoked bout of road rage...

can we just dismiss all this political corect bullshit and lock up all the psyhoes...
in what way does it seem like a good idea to let this MEGAJERK walk around...

incidentally... i thought this story was going to be about a guy crashed while getting a 'hummer' while driving

Meter maids don't carry guns... do they?

The woman was doing her job. You're not going to get out of a ticket by assaulting the meter maid. Dumbass.

And throwing coffee is not like throwing a glass of water, which is merely melodramatic, mean, and childish. The coffee is hot! No, really! They even put disclaimers on all the cups now! Think before you act! Dumbass!

Jails too good for some people. As is hanging then from my balcony by their toes, while filling them with scalding coffee from the wrong end, and waiting for it to come out. Yes, far, far too nice...

No, but it would be pretty badass if they did. They could also have a visor that gave a digital readout of who they were looking at like the Terminator has.

It would have been great if the meter maid announced, "I'm sorry sir. I see the error of my ways now. Well not 'see' per se as I am currently blinded by 180 degree coffee. However, I see it in a metaphorical sense, you know? Go about your business."

First and second degree burns? That's some fucked up coffee I hope the woman's ok. However I also hope she's ok enough not to sue starbucks so they have to put on a disclaimer about not throwing coffee.

Boston drivers suck...even when they're not driving, apparently.

She may not, but the insane coffee thrower may try that route.

"How was I supposed to know that this coffee would hurt someone? I was just being playful!"

If the dude had just ordered a half-caff. double tall 2% no-whip mocha, the meter maid may have only suffered first degree burns.

Yeah, people who throw coffee in other people's faces shouldn't order black.

Didn't Jesus say something like that?

You know it occurs to me, and don't think I'm standing up for this guy, but it seems to me that he's being singled out as a criminal because he was driving a humvee and drinking starbucks. Does anyone consider that if this fellow had just bought seven eleven java and been driving a motorcycle this story wouldn't even exist? It seems kind of unfair to me even though the asshole deserves it. I read in the article that something like 40 meter maids are assaulted in boston every year, and it seems like this is the first time a humvee driver or starbucks customer has ever done it? Could this story just be playing off the stereotype of the arrogant rich guy?
