But we've all seen the problems of the two party system. Democracy is all well and good, but I would suggest voting takes a preference system, and there is a large selection of parties(say four major, some other minor)to choose from.

A republic is the kind where you vote for parties. A democracy is the government where the people just vote on all laws.

Supes, you make me chuckle, but I'd die before I supported any dictatorship, however benign it appeared (as if that were possible.) You'd only be allowing an opening for your standard megalomaniacal dictators by starting out that way. You said for yourself that it would all go to hell as soon as you died. I think we should be trying to set up something lasting here, and less reliant on human whims.

Oh! But it is human whim that is starting this. I'm just taking it to it's more realistic potential and factoring it into my set-up right from the start. That way everyone knows what's going on and are under no illusions that they are free from the base failing of mankind.

And you really wouldn't vote for me to be a dictator????? I promise I'd be really good at it while I lasted happy.gif

So... We have Supes and Barend both wanting dictatorship positions. The most clear-cut way to do it would have you both rule as an oligarchy until you are either killed by the populace or by your rival through your schemes.

Now I like this idea! I'm betting I survive. Why, I hear you ask? Because I've got nice on my side... and that will really erk Barend.

And in regards to voting on the type of government. Obviously I'm sticking with the Dictatorship!

well this is bad. Two in favor of dictatorship and two for democracy. You know, the JM, Lecter and Slade coalition is always accepting new members... Come on people do you really want Barend and Supes sharing power?

I believe that Barend and I would make a great balance. Of course this would only be served better if we could make it a great triumvirate. I wonder what Madame Corvax is up to this time of revolution????

Supes, I am greatly honoured by your invitation. I have given this proposition a serious thought.

The search for an ideal system of power goes for a long time. No other great philosopher than Plato thought that it should be philosophers who are only qualified to rule. In short, his ideal political system was totalitarian. However, we all know totalitarian=bad. Because power corrupts in general.

But looking at the greatest democracty in the world, the USA *snort* makes me think again if the triumvirate is not the better option.

As a matter of fact, I never had any real power. Heck, I cannot even properly control the bunch of 13-year old in my teaching practice. Nobody listens to me at work and I am the loser who always ends up doing everything myself. So perhaps I am the very person perfectly qualified for a dictatorship position?

Ok, I am in for the triumvirate. I just need to work a little about my input to the general poilcy of our government.

Ok, we can't agree, somebody get out the cane and beat someone to death to create a majority. (US History reference!)

What do you mean we can't agree? I thought the whole point about being an evil dictator is that you just usurp power.
Barend, Supes and I, therefore, just usurp power and since you cannot gather any majority to overthrow us, we are just there and you are simply stuck with us.

No. :-D

Seriously, majority has nothing to do with usurping power. It's all about how much control the people allow the usurpers. I am going to just simply refuse to do what you ask, and unless you can figure out a way to force me to do something or coerce me into doing it on my own, your dictatorship will be moot.

Ummm ok bloody hell, people keep getting off topic and it seems that this deadlock can't be solved. I'm going to break party lines and throw my backing behind the triumverate, just so long as they allow parliament some sort of say.

You're free to cast your vote against them Jordan, but I'd rather get this over with and solve all the chaos that has fallen upon debatia. Besides, helping them now gives us leverage to ensure that they stick to their promises later.
