German brothel donates money for tsunami relief
12 January 2005

BERLIN: A German brothel owner has been so moved by the plight of survivors from Asia's tsunami disaster that she is donating part of her takings from clients.

"It's not every day you can make a charitable gesture by going to a brothel," said Mercedes Mueller, who is giving 5 euros ($NZ9.57) of the 39-euro entrance charge clients pay.

"It's so terrible what happened there and I wanted to do something," said Mueller, who owns the Happy FKK Club in the western city of Dortmund.

Mueller said clients, prostitutes and the public had all responded with great enthusiasm to her gesture, and that about 1300 euros had been raised so far.

"We have as much of a right to raise money as any other business," she said. "We all have a heart too. I hope it will serve as an example to others."

See, this is what happens when you legalize prostitution.

It's great because it turns horny businessmen into philanthropists.

I hope some hash bars in Amsterdam start donating as well!

The real question is, can clients then turn around and write off the charitable portion of the charge as a deduction?

That's cool, in a kinda weird way. Like a bizarre mirror of the Pope torturing a puppy. Very odd.

Jen: No, they can't, since they're paying for admission and will not get a tax receipt. The great thing is the brothel will be able to write off the portion it donates. So yes, someone will benefit from a tax deduction there. This is advanced capitalism at its best.

Checking of German financial laws would be in line, if I could be arsed. I don't think we should write it off as tax deduction just yet 'till someone with inside info will shed light upon the laws of Germany.

This really goes hand in hand with my experience with Germans (excluding my psychotic grandmother) they all seem easy going and very nice, quite the opposite of their stereotype of being human robots. So seeing brothels donating money to help the victims doesn't surprise me one bit.

Yes, Germans are generally much more relaxed about that sort of thing. Here in Munich it's quite common to see 'erotica' shops and posters of naked people around the place.

The sandpeople had women and children. We know this because Anakin killed them how could he tell? The children might be smaller but I never saw a sandperson with breasts. Did they hike their skirts and show him some leg or something?

Also, I can see the point of wanting to kidnap a human and use her as a slave, but they didn't. They tied her to a flimsy easel for a month. It's assumed they had to feed and give her water. What for? Was she purely ornamental? I can understand them wanting the droids, you can sell those for a lot of money, but a chick who's only skills are finding non-existand mushrooms and getting randomly pregnant, you're not going to get much.

Not sure I can see that happening, no matter how nice it'd be...

Yeah, there are too many health risks these days for promiscuity. I don't know how common the diseases are, but sleeping with people you don't know is generally risky. But if it helps the Tsunami victims...

Any madam who would donate money to tsunami victims probably keeps her brothel in ship shape. I'm sure that sleeping with prostitutes in a well-ordered brothel carries far fewer risks than sleeping with Swedes off the street.

Nothing against Swedes.
