Slade -- no, you're not a moron, no rock of shame. I think you just touched a raw nerve, in me, at least, when you mentioned your anger and your feeling that the people who died of malnutrition got what they deserved. You say you didn't mean for it to be taken literally, but that's a tricky thing: when you watch someone you care about in the grip of destructive behavior (be it eating disorders or a drinking problem or a drug addiction or what have you) that's how you feel, literally -- furious and guilty for that little voice in the back of your head that says they could get better if they could just see things your way, and their near demise is their fault.

Put another way, it's like saying, "People silly enough to build their houses on flood plains deserve to die in floods." That is a perfectly valid opinion. But if you said it to someone who lost their house, I suspect their first instinct would not be to agree that they hadn't thought things through using logic and reason.

Also, yes, excellent thread title!

No, but you can get "THE ROCK OF TRIUMPH!" I'm not done with my rock of shame. You can have it if you really want in a few days or so.

Ahh, but perhaps it was intentional and Chyld was saying that to increase the humour value of an alread great title?

Or maybe it was just me paraphrasing the original titile, and inadvertently creating hilarity?
